The Divadlo International Theater Festival takes place in Pilzno, Czech Republic, from September 13-20. It is one of the most important theater events in Central Europe, and its aim is to present the best Czech and international performances. This year, Polish bands were also invited to the festival and performed the following works: “Return to Reims” with Jacek Poniedziałek and “Trojan Women” staged by Jan Klata.
Polish “Trojan Women” at the festival in Pilzno
The play “Trojan Women”, based on the ancient text by Euripides, could previously be seen on the stage of the Wybrzeże Theater in Gdańsk. It tells the story of the war from the perspective of women, about their relationships with the victors of the Trojan War, who committed shameful acts. Thanks to Euripides’ unconventional work, the show shows that there are no winners and losers in any armed conflict, and excessive ambition can lead to great suffering.
“Trojan Women” was presented on the Czech stage on the first day of the festival. According to rp.pl, after the first act, the actresses went to the dressing room, where it turned out that someone had plundered their things. Documents, jewelry, phones and payment cards disappeared. The findings show that the theft was committed by three perpetrators who did not have time to “visit” the men’s wardrobe.

Due to the situation, Jan Klata and the event organizers decided to interrupt the performance. The audience was immediately informed of what had happened behind the scenes of the performance.
The police were called to the scene and the Polish consulate was also informed about the incident. The rp.pl website reports that the facility was not properly secured and the festival blamed the local theater for the situation.
