Who can forget about being a priest? The Episcopate sets specific requirements

In recent years, there has been a clear decline in the number of people willing to become priests. However, what is important, not everyone can become a priest. The episcopate’s blacklist includes, among others, people sentenced to death by court judgments and those who are homosexually active.

Who cannot become a priest? Recently, there has been a lot of talk about a special document issued by the Episcopate in 2021 entitled “The path of formation of priests in Poland. Ratio institutionis sacerdotalis pro Polonia”. What do we learn about this subject? The issue was examined by the Interia portal.

Who cannot become a priest? These include actively homosexual people

So who was on the episcopate’s blacklist? These include people with court judgments and those against whom criminal proceedings are pending. People who are homosexually active or support the so-called gay culture cannot count on admission to the seminary. Importantly, however, it is not entirely clear what is meant by this concept – it was not clarified in the episcopate’s document. People who witnessed a crime are to be under the special care of their superior in the seminary. In turn, in the case of immigrants, it is very important to examine their motivation.

“The candidacies of those who have children require special discernment”

Importantly, widowers and single men over 35 still have a chance to become priests. In such cases, however, you should contact the National Seminar for Older Candidates in Łódź. The document also applies to people who already have children or were married. – The candidacies of those who have children, have had their marriage annulled or have already been seminarians in other seminaries require special discernment – the document emphasizes.
