There is probably no person who, as a child, did not watch a movie based on a story by Hans Christian Andersen. The plot of the remake does not differ from that known from the classic animation. The main character is the beautiful but rebellious Ariel, who is willing to pay a huge price in the name of love. Falling in love with Prince Eric, who lives on land, she decides to take a brave step. To fulfill his dream, he makes a pact with the cunning sea witch Ursula. It abandons the ocean and replaces its scaled tail with a pair of legs. However, it quickly turns out that the reality is far from her imagination.
Undoubtedly, the success of the production was due to, among others, star cast. It should be noted, however, that the choice of the actress for the title role was not met with enthusiasm by fans of the classic version of the fairy tale. The role of Ariel was played by Halle Bailey, whose appearance, according to many, does not match the character created by Disney. Her love interest was created on screen by Jonah Hauer-King. Other roles were played by, among others: Javier Bardem, Melissa McCartyhy and Simone Ashley. In the Polish version of the production, the Mermaid was voiced by Sara James, and the other characters were voiced by actors, such as Karol Jankiewicz and Olga Szomańska.

The cinema premiere, contrary to previous speculations and fears, turned out to be another huge success for the studio. According to the film, in just over three months, the film earned a total of over $564 million, which guaranteed it the 6th place among the highest-grossing films of 2023 in the world. Everything indicates that it also has a chance to repeat this achievement in streaming. After only 103 days after its debut on the big screen, on September 6, 2023, the production joined the library of the Disney+ streaming platform, causing a real sensation among its users. During the first five days, it was viewed a total of 16 million times, which gives it over 3 million viewers a day.
