In theory, everyone knows well what the authors of books well-known from their school days looked like, thanks to the images on the covers and portraits reprinted in textbooks. This time, artificial intelligence helped answer the question of what writers would look like if they lived today.

For some, it’s a nightmare from their school days, for others, it’s been their favorite for many years. The authors evoke different emotions in each of them, and not everyone’s memories are pleasant. Faces known from the canon decorate book covers, illustrate chapters in textbooks and often hang on the walls of classrooms. Readers sometimes wonder how their works sound in relation to modern times. But what would the authors themselves look like if they were alive today?

The authors’ first vision of the new edition of the readings appeared on September 3, and the post quickly became viral. Adam Mickiewicz, Juliusz Słowacki, Cyprian Kamil Norwid, Bolesław Prus and Eliza Orzeszkowa delighted in the modernized version. Fans wrote in the comments that they would take Norwid “for a soy latte”, although he is a bit “too polished”. They also noted that such images would be a perfect complement to Polish language lessons. Now it’s time for more authors and writers known from school reading.

Fans asked for more, so this time artificial intelligence helped show what Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz, Gabriela Zapolska, Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński, Henryk Sienkiewicz and Eliza Orzeszkowa would look like today. The images once again appeared on the Facebook profile of Storytel, an audiobook application. They were dressed in more modern clothes and their hairstyles were also changed.

Like the previous post, this one also received an enthusiastic response from fans. Some people noticed Sienkiewicz’s resemblance to , others were delighted with Orzeszkowa. This time, the vision of contemporary Witkacy and Baczyński caused the most reaction, although not everyone liked the latter. There were voices that the poet would certainly dress differently.
