At the beginning of the 21st century, Ich Troje was at the peak of popularity. Mainly because of homely hits, which were eagerly sung by all of Poland at the time, but also because of the controversial singer – Michał Wiśniewski, who is considered one of the first Polish celebrities.
In 2003, the singer married Marta “Mandaryna” Wiśniewska. Their wedding took place near the North Pole in Kiruna, Sweden, and the event was broadcast live by TVN as part of the “I am what I am” program. Soon the artist’s spouse, following in his footsteps, decided to start her own singing career.
Mandarin at the beginning of the millennium gained incredible fame
Mandarin was mainly known for her dance performances, which she performed on stage alongside Ich Troje. In 2004, however, she released her debut album “Mandaryna.com”, and the single promoting the release was a cover of the Whitesnake hit “Here I Go Again”. Poles liked Mandarin’s disco arrangement and it was eagerly played by local radio stations.
A year later, she followed suit and released another album, “Mandarinkowy Sen”, which included one of the artist’s greatest hits, “Ev’ry Night”. The song was a summer hit in 2005, and the artist submitted the song to the competition for the Amber Nightingale, which took place on September 3, 2005, exactly 18 years ago.
The competition for the prize was then one of the highlights of the music festival. However, a few days before the concert, a recording compromising Mandarin was posted online, in which her real vocal skills can be heard. The singer decided to show everyone that this was not true and decided to perform in front of the audience without using playback. This turned out to be the nail in the coffin of her career.
The most important performance of my life also turned out to be the worst
Before entering the Sopot stage, the singer uttered one sentence that remains iconic in some circles to this day: “Good morning, my dears, this is one of the most important performances in my life. Do you know “Ev’ry Night”? Do you know?! It’s up! HABA “. After that, she moved on to a performance during which she spoofed incredibly. Although in the competition for Amber Nightingale the song won second place, during the performance, there was a buzzing and whistling coming from the audience.
This event resonated widely in the media, and her musical career soon collapsed. To make matters worse, a few months later she divorced Michał Wiśniewski and decided to devote herself to dancing professionally, opening her own studio. Years later, in interviews, she suggested that the situation at the 2005 festival was sabotage, but she did not want to discuss it. In 2009, she tried to return to the world of music, releasing the album “AOK”, but it did not arouse any interest. After that, she disappeared from the media world for some time.
In the second half of the 1900s, Mandarin’s work and her “legendary” performance were made famous by the guys running the Vogule Poland website, who then went on tours around Poland, organizing club events. During the discos, they willingly played the artist’s forgotten hits, which was very much appreciated by the participants of the events and Internet users. Mandaryna also decided to use it, which released a new single in 2018 and also started a club tour around Poland.
She released the last new song last year, but they did not win the hearts of listeners. Also, mainstream radio stations are not interested in her new work. Also, the internet wave of popularity has passed quickly and it does not seem like the singer will be able to shine again in the world of music.
