He venice festivalwhich in the last decade has become the favorite showcase of Hollywood cinema in Europe, starts its 80th edition this Wednesday marked by the strike of American screenwriters and actors/actresseswhich threatens to overshadow the traditional red carpet spectacle.
The artistic director of the festival, Alberto Barbera, wants to show that despite Hollywood, this edition will be “great cinema” with some of the most anticipated titles of the fall. “We will give a 360-degree view of the current scene”, he promises and ensures that it will be a balance between what “everyone expects from a prestigious festival and a work of exploration of emerging cinematographies”.
Questioned about the impact of the strike, Barbera has considered that “it will not be such a big deal” and that the event will have “enough” celebrities. Among the cancellations of American films, only one must be mentioned: “Challengers”, the latest by Luca Guadagnino, starring Zendaya, which was supposed to open the Festival, but has withdrawn since its production company has delayed its release to April.
“All other titles have been confirmed. The only difference is that a part of the actors will not come. Those linked to studios or platforms that are on strike cannot participate in the Mostra, so we will have less on the red carpets, but all the directors will be there“, Explain.
