What is a composter? It’s a simple way to save money and protect the environment
A composter is a place or container on a plot of land where organic waste is deposited. We are talking about kitchen leftovers, including vegetable and fruit peelings, coffee and tea grounds or egg shells, as well as plant remains, leaves, grass, cartons and paper. Under the influence of oxygen and the action of microorganisms, the leftovers are decomposed and compost is formed, which we can use as organic. In this way, we not only throw less garbage to landfills, but also gain an ecological product that we can use on the plot, so we will take care of the environment and our wallet.
Where to put the composter? You can’t choose anywhere
The composter has many advantages, but also one disadvantage. Namely, his , which is often not very encouraging. For this reason, you can’t put it in the first place on the plot, because it can disturb both you and your neighbors. This issue is also regulated by law, which clearly defines how far from the house and the border with the neighbor’s plot it can be placed.
The distance of the composter from the plot boundary. How much should it be?
The required distance of the composter from the neighbor’s plot and buildings where people work or food is kept is regulated by the Minister of Infrastructure on technical conditions, and more precisely in chapter 7. We can read in it that in the case of:
- a small composter with no outflow, i.e. up to 10 m³ – the distance from the neighbor’s plot should be at least 7.5 meters, and from buildings at least 15 meters.
- a large septic composter, i.e. up to 50 m³ – the distance from the neighbor’s plot should also be at least 7.5 meters, and from buildings at least 30 meters.
The situation is slightly different in single-family housing, where a small composter is also allowed. However, it is important that it is located 5 meters from the windows and external doors and 2 meters from the border with the neighbor’s plot, road and pedestrian pavement.
