The world’s worst festival returns. The organizer got out of prison and sells tickets, they go like water

The first edition of Fyre Festival planned for 2017 turned out to be an absolute disaster. The “exclusive” events resulted in lawsuits and imprisonment for the organizer of the event. However, the entrepreneur is not discouraged. He left his cell and started selling tickets for the next part of the infamous event.

Fyre Festival is hands down the worst music festival in the world. Everyone was talking about his spectacular flop. A unique, exclusive and prestigious event full of stars was to be held on a private island in the Bahamas in 2017. The event turned out to be a complete disaster.

The world’s worst festival returns with its second edition. Will it happen this time?

The originator of the event for wealthy festival goers was Billy McFarland, who started cooperation with the rapper Ja Rule. The organizer promised the participants exquisite meals, luxurious conditions and unforgettable experiences. Famous models and influential influencers were employed to promote the event. A ticket to the Fyre Festival cost between $1,500 and $12,000 per person.

However, instead of luxury, the participants of the festival met on the spot ordinary tents, lack of water, electricity and poor quality catering, which in addition was not enough for everyone. Shortages in food, medical care, not enough places to accommodate festival goers and inadequate security of the event led to growing chaos. Eventually, the festival was cancelled.

The fury of both people who bought horrendously expensive tickets and those who promoted the festival and thus had a bad image continued to grow long after their (albeit difficult) return from the island. Lawsuits poured in. McFarland was sentenced to six years in prison in 2018. He was charged with fraud and extortion. The sentence did not end there, the organizer of the event was to pay investors as much as 26 million in damages.

There’s even a Netflix documentary about the Fyre Festival, “Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened.” On the small screen, the story of the failed event was also told in “Fyre Fraud” from Hulu.

The organizer of the Fyre Festival has come out of his cell and is selling tickets for the next event. First batch sold out

It would seem that the financial and image flop of the event will be a warning both for social media users who will understand how easy it is to be manipulated online, and for its organizers. However, Billy McFarland seems to want to capitalize on the popularity of his failure and turn it into success.

In 2022, the entrepreneur was released from prison after serving four years. In April 2023, he announced that he was organizing the second edition of Fyre Festival, and recently tickets for the event went on sale. What is most interesting, there was no shortage of people willing to participate in the event. The first batch of tickets sold out in less than two days, although the event doesn’t even have a date or any artist in the line-up yet.

“I have great support this time”

And the tickets are again not the cheapest. When the next pools of tickets go on sale, they will cost from 800 to 8 thousand dollars. The organizer has ensured that the proceeds from ticket sales will be secured in a “deposit” until the date of the event is announced.

“This time we have great support. I will do what I love together with the best partners,” McFarland wrote on Instagram and assures everyone who trusted him again that he will not let them down this time.
