The musical “40-year-old” is being created. This is what the new engineer Karwowski and the Working Woman look like

Will Stefan discover his vocal talent? What connects a Working Woman and an engineer? Who is Maliniak really? The creators of the musical “40-year-old” want to answer these questions.

“Long before ‘Succession’, ‘Game of Thrones’ or ‘Rodzina Sopranos’, millions of TV viewers were delighted with the Polish series in which the heroic engineer struggled with family and construction problems and traveled around Warsaw with a famous toddler. Half a century after the broadcast of the pilot ‘Czterdziestolatka’ ‘ Stefan Karwowski, his toddler, wife Madzia, Maliniak and Working Woman are back – as the heroes of the musical! – announces the Rampa Theater in Targówek in Warsaw. On September 15, the performance based on the original script by Jerzy Gruza and Krzysztof Teodor Toeplitz, referring to the cult series, will have its premiere. The director, screenwriter and author of song lyrics in the performance is Joanna Drozda, who also plays the role of Working Woman.

The title role will be alternately played by Marcin Januszkiewicz and Modest Ruciński. The role of the engineer’s wife – Madzia Karwowska – was entrusted to Anna Mierzwa by the creators – you can find their photos in the gallery. Maliniak is played by Krzysztof Godlewski, and the closest friend of the title forty-year-old will be played alternately by Arkadiusz Brykalski and Konrad Marszałek. Musicians will accompany the actors.

The Forty-Year-Old is turning 50 soon

The first episode of “Czterdziestolatka” by Jerzy Gruza was broadcast on May 16, 1975. A total of 21 episodes were made. Andrzej Kopiczyński also played the main role in the film “I am a butterfly, or the romance of a 40-year-old” from 1976. In the years 1993-1994, TVP showed the less popular continuation of the series entitled “Czterdziestolatek. 20 years later”.

It has gone down in history, the character played by Irena Kwiatkowska in the series. Working Woman appeared in every episode, each time she had a different profession and often emphasized: “… I am a working woman, I am not afraid of any work.” The heroine in her thirties was played by an actress who was over 60 at the time to show how hard the character works – in the series Working Woman she emphasized that “you have to earn your appearance”.
