On the fifth weekend after the premiere, “Oppenheimer” surprised with box office results. The film exceeded $700 million in revenue and overtook the final installment of the “Fast and the Furious” franchise. Universal’s sure-fire earned $704.7 million, Nolan’s work earned $717.8 million.
However, Inception remains Nolan’s highest-grossing film with $837.1 million, not taking inflation into account. Until recently, “Interstellar” occupied the second place among the director’s blockbusters, but “Oppenheimer” easily dethroned the picture. The 2014 film grossed “only” $677 million.
