Difficult beginnings of Magda Gessler. She didn’t always want to be a restaurateur
Magda Gessler graduated from painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of St. Ferdinand in Madrid. Although she was successful in this field, it was difficult for her to cope financially. For this reason, she earned extra money during her studies. Thanks to this, she learned independence and respect for money. I was very independent throughout my studies. My parents were with me in Madrid and thanks to them I was there, but the Academy of Fine Arts is one of the more expensive studies. You have to buy a stretcher, these are not small sizes, canvases, paints … I had to come up with a way to be able to study and earn, to meet these expenses, to also have money for the bus – confessed Magda Gessler during one of the speeches at the fair – I managed quite well, primarily by making pottery that was decorative as jewelry. I also styled people for various occasions, brought Polish folk costumes to Spain, organized exhibitions of clothes from Łowicz and Kurpie, she said.
Her lover left her alone in the hotel. She didn’t know what to do
Gessler published a book a few years ago in which she presented her fate. She also described an affair years ago with a man from Germany. It turns out that she spent time with him at the hotel, but he decided to run away without paying for the room in advance. – Not only for accommodation, but also breakfasts served in the room, champagnes and other miracles that we allowed ourselves during these almost two months of pure madness. (…) I was stuck. Penniless and heavily in debt. Room service kicked me out but kept my passport and suitcases, giving me two days to pay the bill. I stayed in what I was wearing, without a passport and with zero knowledge of German – told Magda in the book. Fortunately, with the help of other Poles, she managed to pay off the debt and return to Poland.
Magda Gessler lost her child. Complications arose in the sixth month
With Volkhart Müller, Magda Gessler had a son, Tadeusz. It turns out that she was also expecting the birth of a second child. Unfortunately, when she was in the sixth month of pregnancy, complications occurred, and the born daughter lived only 2 weeks. – The rescue of the child has begun. A woman in such a situation is at risk of infection and death. There was a fight for the child’s life all the time. Every day I could feel him moving, snuggling inside me. I was dying of fear. I thought I would orphan one-year-old Tadeusz – said Gessler in an interview for the weekly “Good Moments”. Shortly after this event, her husband also died, which contributed to another trauma. The man could not cope with the death of his daughter, which caused his health to deteriorate. – The death of her daughter was the reason for the relapse of her husband’s illness. I do not believe that this would have happened had we not lost a child to the complete ignorance of the doctors. My husband was German. He died on my birthday. Then I started speaking German. We, Polish women, are wonderful in the most difficult situations, we have the will to survive – she confessed to Andrzej Sołtysik in the “Personal Luggage” program.
Magda Gessler survived difficult times and came out victorious. – You should keep going. Thinking about the next child, about preserving the family, about not letting pain overshadow our world. This traumatic experience taught me to love life even more, not to put off important things for later. And, most importantly, do not look for the guilty – she said in an interview with “Party”.
