The 38-year-old from Michigan grew a beard about 30 cm long, earning her a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the woman to grow the longest beard in the world. She stopped shaving two years ago.

Erin Honeycutt’s beard started growing when she was a teenager. All because she suffers from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which causes her body to produce more male hormones. This, in turn, may lead to to excessive hair growth. Although for many years she carefully removed every hair on her beard, recently she decided to change it.

By the age of 13, she was shaving up to three times a day. She tried different ways

As a thirteen-year-old, Erin Honeycutt regularly removed hair from her . She used various depilation methods, including a regular razor or wax. “I probably shaved at least three times a day,” she told . She has done this throughout her adult life as well. It was only serious health problems that led to the deterioration of her vision that made her decide to stop. In addition to PCOS, Erin struggled with a foot injury that became infected and had to be amputated, and an eye stroke caused by high blood pressure. “It took away all my central vision,” she explained.

Poor vision made a close shave problematic. Still, Erin was still trying to get rid of the unwanted facial hair. During the pandemic, with the support of her , Jen, she decided to try something different and see what she would look like with a beard. Especially since she’s been curious about it in the past as well. The woman laughed that wearing the masks made the growing process much easier, which took two years. She jokingly admitted that the biggest plus of having facial hair is that it hides her second chin. Of the cons, she mentioned that she “gets stuck in everything”, which can be troublesome.

On February 8, 2023, Erin Honeycutt set a new record and became the woman to grow the longest beard in the world. Her stubble measured 30 cm, thanks to which she entered the pages of the “Guinness Book of Records”. The previous title belonged to 75-year-old Vivian Wheeler (25.5 cm). Erin admitted that achieving a record in something she used to be extremely ashamed of is “really amazing”.
