At a point in his artistic career where he migrates his musical style and finds the reason for his lyrics, Jandino premieres today his new single, Fishand tells us the meaning of the touching song.
How did the idea come from Fishhis new musical project ?
My entire circle, of the people who accompany me every day, are women. I started to understand that my project, with the music I was making, was very focused on women’s stories. I recently met a girl who I’ve become very good friends with and her story inspired me to make this. It’s about the power women have when they end a relationship and they’re in the worst place, how that makes them “bichotas.” I want to empower them, make them feel strong and safe, be the typical good friend who will listen.
Inspired by the situation of Valentina de Abreu: how did she react to ‘Peces’?
A while ago we were in Salinas; she came to visit me and I recorded her first reaction. I told him, “I wrote you a song and I want you to listen to it. Remember what you told me?” He didn’t believe me. It was very exciting. I think when I do songs from true stories, it’s the most effective way for someone to say, “Wow!That’s what I lived for.”

What about your love stories? Do you reflect them in your music?
I have quite a few. I fell in love, they broke my heart. beach housemy first song outside of Disney, is about what I was going through with my ex-partner at the time, and it was a lot of fun, it was real, and people liked it.
When did you leave Disney?
I went to Argentina in 2017 with a suitcase and without reaching any project to pour. I had participated Ecuador has talent, I became a little known here and with that money I made the trip. I was in a duo at the time, but he went on to study Architecture and I continued with music. In Argentina I got a lot of opportunities. I showed up at a party attended by Disney executives and, like a good Ecuadorian labioso, they gave me the chance. After a while I worked with a guy who made songs for I am moon and two of my songs made it into the series. They told me that my profile was good for the series and even though I didn’t know how to behave, I said “all yes”.
I could continue acting at Disney, but that stage ends and you grow up. I wanted to throw myself into music and gain new experiences. Music takes me out of my comfort, it generates adrenaline, and I like that.
When does he stop being José Andrés and start becoming Jandino?
I was in a recording studio recording a song for a super big artist. The producer says to me, “Now say your name so the artist knows who wrote the song,” and at that point I threw a lot of names; but since I was a kid they call me Jandi, and I combined it with something from Ecuador; I needed my (artist) name to represent my country. So that’s how he was born jandino.
Did you leave Argentina to return to Ecuador?
I left three years ago, I lived in Mexico and I have been in Ecuador since December. I lived in Guayaquil for a while; I like it, but I’m from Salinas and now I’m there.
How would you describe your music style at the moment?
I’m romantic, but I’m also a thug. I am an artist who can sing a lot of rap and street music, but I also sing about love. Now that I want to empower women, I just listen playlists that empower women.
What is Jandino’s sentimental situation?
‘Single’, having fun, being happy, meeting a lot of people, from the work floor, personal, a lot of contact with the family, quiet.
What ‘shows’ do you have planned?
In September we will play in Guayaquil. In October we will play in La Troncal. This year I want to tour all over Ecuador, I want to take my music to the smallest town.
