The break was so shocking that the boy was busy from 2015 to 2020, he released at least one album a year, and sometimes they were double or even triple releases. After all, the secular tradition was that in the summer around his birthday, which he celebrates on July 29, his new album “suddenly” and without any advertising appeared on the web, and then everyone is divided into two camps. Those happy and delighted with the new numbers and those who think that Filip used to rap better.
Taco Hemingway announced the album and the “wild frenzy” broke out again
For three years it was quiet and without new records. Until here, on the night of August 16 to 17, 2023, the 33-year-old rapper threw the so-called “Gelato” into the network (the chorus is already haunting me – “where summer, where summer”) and “Makarena Freestyle”. Traditionally, the pre-sale of the new album has also started, which is entitled “1-800-Oświatenie”. People rushed to order the album and T-shirts in such masses that, firstly, there was a queue on the site, and secondly, all fresh t-shirts disappeared from the warehouses.
If this wasn’t enough proof that “wonsacz” (that’s how young people affectionately call Filip on the Internet) has the most loyal audience, it’s worth reading the comments of listeners of all ages. They are endearingly enthusiastic and show that it is not without reason that someone called Filip “Mickiewicz of our time”: “Omg, thank you for putting down the beer and releasing the song”, “Fifi is back and saved the summer”, “Finally, thank you, so much waiting”, “I missed you “, “Maybe after the summer. It’s important that Taco is found”, “The Internet and the whole scene exploded”, “As my daughter wrote to me this morning: KING has returned” – people write on Facebook on the rapper’s official fan page.
I also looked at Tik-Tok. Of course, the first recordings of excited listeners and listeners have already appeared there, which show how happy they are with new music and albums, they say that it was worth waiting these three years. On one of them, the girl, clearly disbelieving in happiness, grabs her head, and the screen covers the inscription: “I don’t know if it’s some kind of schizophrenia or Filip Szcześniak (Taco Hemingway) released two songs and plays the album, because it’s probably not serious “. And yet it happens! Friends comment: “I don’t believe this year has gotten better”, “I don’t believe it”, “Mr. Szcześniak, we’ve been waiting for you”, “He saved summer 2k23”.
What did the artist mean? Analysis of the lyrics of “Gelato” and “Macarena Freestyle”
“It doesn’t have to be whole albums, but I miss simple songs like that,” an 18-year-old homeboy tells me, no less excited about new songs than the rest of the internet. This is important, because the discussion about how fresh numbers appeal to listeners is an inseparable element of the whole ritual. Bearing in mind that young people already anticipate that in the future Taco Hemingway’s texts will be analyzed in schools and at final exams, let me do something like that here.
In “Gelato”, Fifi, as a sensitive and artistic man, raps about having existential fears and instead of enjoying life (“forget about it, it’s not worth it”), he obsessively thinks about “bad days”. He wanted to write an album while on holiday in Greece, but his partner missed him when he went to “speloons” for creative purposes (i.e. “writing verses”) and “wearing dresses that are too tight”. The lyrical subject is already sadly thinking about the autumn chill and the cyclical passing of summer, which always ends too quickly in Poland. It’s hard to disagree with him, and the song is an example of the author’s reflections, and the whole thing is accompanied by a light, actually holiday beat. Interestingly, the artist’s partner, Iga Lis, is responsible for the script and direction of the very aesthetic music video.
“Makarena Freestyle” is an account of the thoughts that haunt Hemingway when he drives the “cart through Warsaw” and listens to Edyta Bartosiewicz’s classic hit “Jenny”. The author reveals that his relatives advise him to go to therapy, and he doubts the sense of such treatment, because “what a medicine man will tell me that Miss Jenny won’t tell me”.

“Wonsacz” In “Makarena Freestle” there are a lot of autobiographical elements – he mentions in the song m.in. beginnings of his career, as a 17-year-old “kitrał stuff” and had “only a hundred” on his account, and also that at that stage only Rumak, his friend, and the producer of subsequent pieces believed in his success.
He also moves on to his present, making money, spending it, doubts that overwhelm him. And what’s bothering him? First of all, he doubts himself and his achievements, he is called in the text “moron” and “duman”. “I have no flaws, because I am a flaw” – he raps and admits that he likes to listen to haters, because thanks to them he “does better”. He also doubted if his new material was good enough and compared to Mata (“I thought I wouldn’t write a hit when he was on Eska’s ‘Kiss cam'” [piosenka Maty, która okazała się globalnym hitem – przyp. red]).
He also admits that he was tired of tracking the statistics of plays and views (“fuck the views race”), promoting everything with videos on Tik-Tok, etc., so because of this pressure he decided to take a creative break. He also announces that, like Edyta Bartosiewicz, he will withdraw from the industry for 15 years (hopefully not), which is clearly suggested by the lines:
Maybe it’s time to quit, I catch the flu on every tour
I will play my last play in August, the treatment will last until October
I push the release date a day every time a fan asks me
At the moment, the break is fifteen years, I will do it like Edyta
There is an element of aging to all of this. The 33-year-old artist raps: “I felt like a boomer, thinking (ho) ‘this is not hip-hop'”, “give me a new PESEL!”. Taco thinks that “I’m a stranger to teenagers, I listened to files from foobar”. He also claims that he no longer has “words” because he “only has an SUV”. He must also receive a lot of nude photos from his recipients, because he adds that “Your nudes are just boredom.” It is also captivating that because Filip signs his fans with everything they give him, he raps that for this reason he is “like Andrzej Duda”.
From the text we learn that money does not bring happiness, he lives under pressure, but he knows that “such style, such stress, such price”. The whole argument ends with the existential “Taco was, Taco is, Tray is not”. So, with Philip, everything is the old way.
