The program, which is completely live and hosted by Ecuadorians Martina Vera and Carolina Mella, not only focuses on cities such as Guayaquil and Quito, but also reaches other provinces such as Cuenca, Loja, Esmeraldas and Amazon.

This was Renata Salem’s first day as the new host of ‘En corto’

Both have a long history in the journalism worldwhich Carolina previously worked in ecuavisawhere he worked as a space research journalist 360 vision, and Martina was a correspondent in the Spanish media NTN24 and also worked for other international channels such as Todo Noticias and Canal Trece, both from Argentina.

β€œIt has always been the intention to activate us live and direct from every part of the country where we have our reporters, this is a tool that is hardly used. We are providing a more detailed look into reality so that those who watch the program have a clearer and more real picture of what is happening in the country,” he stressed. Martina, who is convinced that changing the story that dominates Ecuadorian TV is necessary to be able to tell the country from a different perspective and to portray everyday life.

Te veo Ecuador celebrates its first broadcast anniversary on Tuesday, August 22. Both journalists state that the focus is and will always be on the people. Carolina mentions that this space helped her build a much more human perspective, as she felt she was used to harsh subject matter and dealing directly with official sources. “We must be aware of the panorama in which we develop our program. Connects a lot with the audience.”

For Martina it was revealing to be part of Te veo Ecuador, “the most important thing is the people, for me what a politician or an economist says went to the third level, and I say the third level, because although it is still important, what matters most are the people, their concerns, the things that inspire and move them.

Martina also tells that when it was proposed within the channel to do such a program in Ecuador, it did not come to fruition due to various factors and the main concern was that there were no more stories, but the opposite happened.

β€œBy building this large and solid base of correspondents, reporters, cameramen, editors and journalistic producers, we have been able to use all resources so that we do not run out of stories to tell. Training the team is an exercise every day,” he confirms.

They have faced challenging challenges, such as managing to tell a different story for each story: β€œStories are born from reporters, who do a thorough search for the issues. They are in their own province and already know the territory, they do full fieldwork,” he says. Carolina, adding that when they come across a story, they wonder how to tell it their own way, then give it focus and a fresh perspective.

Another challenge is security. “For example, it is a daily challenge to keep our correspondent in Esmeraldas safe, we have had to make changes, such as temporarily removing her from the province, while always trying to protect her,” he says.

During this first year, they’ve worked on training reporters to be all-rounders so they can be versatile and cover any story, and on “changing the chip of what we consume on television.”as Martina assures, adding that despite the fact that the country is not very familiar with this kind of format, those who watch the program get hooked the first time.

That’s what it says Curiosity is something that is scarce in the national media, β€œwe have to encourage our team and the public to be curious, because you have to understand that a story is everywhere. The lady of the store who lives with you must have a valuable story to tell”.

Carolina hopes that in the future they can increase their presence in other provinces and continue to bring Ecuadorians closer to quality content. The program airs Monday through Friday at 6 p.m. on the Teleamazonas signal.
