Honorary benefit. Who is entitled to?
The honorary benefit is colloquially called the centenarian’s pension. All because it is money granted to people who are over 100 years old. In many cases, the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) pays the benefit along with the pension or disability pension received, and then no applications need to be submitted. However, if an old-age or disability pension is not granted to a senior, apart from reaching the age of 100, he must also submit an appropriate application to ZUS. It is then enough to submit the required documents in person or by post or proxy. A proof of date of birth must be attached to the application. It can be a copy of an abbreviated birth certificate, an identity card issued after December 31, 2000, or a valid passport.
How much is the honorary benefit? The amount changes every year
Each centenarian receiving the benefit can count on an amount equal to the average salary for the previous year. However, it will be reduced by social security contributions. From March 1, 2023, it is as much as PLN 5,500 per month. It is worth noting, however, that the amount once granted does not change. This means that seniors turning 100 from March 1, 2023 to April 30, 2024 will receive an honorary benefit in the amount of PLN 5,500 and this will be paid to them every month until the end of their lives. Even if it will be increased from March 1, 2024.
