The winner of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest was Loreen, who won the hearts of people with the song “Tattoo”. In addition, the singer is the first woman who managed to win Eurovision twice. Our country was represented by Blanka with the song “Solo”, which initially did not appeal to the Poles. However, when the singer honed her vocal skills, the song went viral and most of her compatriots began to support her in the competition. Unfortunately, it didn’t help and in the end Blanka was ranked 19th.
Without next year’s Eurovision pre-selections? TVP may be afraid of another scandal
As reported by the portal , it is quite possible that next year’s preselection for Eurovision will not take place. “Now there are rumors that TVP has already chosen a representative for Eurovision 2024. It would be Kuba Szmajkowski” – we read in the article. He is a 21-year-old singer and songwriter who gained popularity thanks to his participation in the first edition of “The Voice Kids”, of which he became a finalist.
Later, he became the vocalist of the boyband 4Dreamers, with whom he released two albums in 2018-2021. He later decided to pursue a solo career. In 2021, he released the single “Lovesick”, and the following year “You Do Me”. He also took part in the pre-selections for Eurovision twice, but without success.
If the information provided by the portal turns out to be true, Szmajkowski will not have to fight for participation in the competition again, because it would mean abandoning the organization of the pre-selection. Apparently, Telewizja Polska wants to avoid the scandal that took place this year. The rules of the competition do not specify specific requirements as to the method of selecting a representative, so TVP can choose a candidate according to its own ideas.
In a recent interview with the artist himself, he spoke about this. He openly admitted that performing at Eurovision is his great dream, but mentioned that Polish Television did not contact him about this matter. He only said that he would be happy to participate in the pre-selections for the third time, if they were organized:
Eurovision has always been and still is my huge dream. It would be great to perform on such a huge stage and get to know a wider audience. I’m working on new music material, which will soon see the light of day. If one of the new songs had a chance to prove itself in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, I would be happy to take part in the National Eliminations – said Szmajkowski.
