Disney+. The fight against account sharing is not everything. Packages will become more expensive later this year

Disney+ subscribers in the near future can expect not only restrictions on sharing accounts. It turns out that from December you will have to pay more for access to the platform. New packages will also appear.

During a recent press conference, the head of The Walt Disney Company Bob Iger confirmed the concerns of users. He informed that the company plans to follow in the footsteps of Netflix and begins the fight against account sharing. For now, we are analyzing how many users share profiles with family or friends. Limiting account sharing is a priority, and the first solutions are expected to appear in 2024. However, these are not all the changes awaiting users.

Disney plus. The price for access to the platform will also increase in Poland

It turns out that users can also expect increases in plans. Prices will increase significantly, but there will be an option to save, although it is not known when it will become available in Poland. How much will access cost? For new users, more expensive packages will apply from November 1, 2023. For active users, prices will increase after December 6, 2023. Monthly access to the platform will increase by PLN 9.

  • Monthly subscription: PLN 37.99 (from PLN 28.99).
  • Annual subscription: PLN 379.90 (from PLN 289.90).

From November 1, Disney+ will also begin testing new ad-supported subscription plans in several European countries. There will be no download on mobile devices included in the package. Ad-supported access will cost £4.99 or €5.99. The cheapest ad-free package is currently £7.99 or €8.99 per month by comparison. It is not known when the ad package will appear in Poland.

Disney+: more expensive bundles and ad-supported access. It’s “inevitable”

The offer of given streaming services is not everything, because the amount of the subscription is also important for users. Price increases, as well as further restrictions on sharing accounts with users outside the household or packages with advertisements, are slowly starting to be introduced by other platforms. It is no longer just trying to fight to increase profits in this way.

Increasing revenue is an issue that all platforms face, including Disney+, so it becomes inevitable to take actions like increasing the subscription price or enabling ads

– emphasizes Marcin Boroszko, consultant of Channel Factory Polska. Services such as Disney+ are therefore trying to increase the number of subscribers, but also fight to keep the current ones. Packages with advertisements seem to be a good, though still emotional, way for users to save on access to platforms.

This option can also reduce the number of subscribers, but it seems that with so many platforms to choose from, it is only a matter of time before one of them decides that it will gain more from opening the advertising option instead of another subscription increase.
