Today, “White Bear” is considered to be. It gained popularity in the 90s, when it was experiencing a real boom, but its creation dates back to at least three decades earlier. In the minds of many, its author was a certain Mirosław Górski, but at the beginning of the 21st century it turned out that the matter is a bit more complicated.
He sang “White Bear” to his wife during a visit in the army. The song was inspired by their son
In the 1990s, a young couple, Mirosław and Maria Górski, were going through difficult times. The man was drafted into the army, which meant a 10-month separation from his wife and son, Andrzej, then less than 2 years old. His parents nicknamed him “White Bear” because of his exceptionally light blonde hair. The couple saw each other occasionally at specially organized visits. It was then that Górski dedicated this one to his wife. – In the common room, my husband sang this sad song to me. I cried – woman. – “The White Bear” was for me – she added with conviction.
Throughout history, it is important that Górski was a member of the Dowcipnisie band, which later changed its name to Dobosze. His brother also played in the band and it was him who first played “White Bear” in front of the audience. quickly won the hearts of listeners, and thus nationwide recognition. A few years later it was already one of the biggest. – I was amazed when a year later I heard my song at a dance in Łowicz – said Maria Górska. Even Tymon Tymański created his own interpretation for the film adaptation of “The Wedding” directed by Wojciech Smarzowski. The alleged author never claimed his rights. By the time.
Who is the author of “The White Bear”? The court settled the dispute
With the increase in the popularity of “Biała teddy bear”, other people claiming to be its authors took the floor, including, among others, Janusz Kreft and Jan Tarka. In 1964, the first of them was to present this work to a certain Krystyna, who was then the object of his sighs. Apparently, singing these words, he stole her heart and soon after they got married. Kreft was to create music inspired by the work of the Beatles, and Tarka was the author of the lyrical layer. In his opinion, the text was written as early as 1959, which was confirmed by a member of the band Badyle, Wiesław Chrzanowski, who supposedly wrote two more verses in the following years. Confirmation of this version was supposed to be a sound postcard popular at the time, but its original was lost without a trace. However, the recording that Kreft gave to his beloved has survived.
Although all three performances are slightly different, both in terms of words and arrangements, a dispute has begun between the men over the recognition of copyright and thus royalties. In 2015, the District Court in Gdańsk received a petition against Mirosław Górski, who had been claiming to be the author for years. After a 7-year weld, the court finally ruled that the rights to “White Bear” belong to Janusz Kreft and Jan Tarka. The man has the right to appeal against this judgment.
