Rapper Tory Lanez sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion

Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, whom Taco Hemingway rapped about in one of his songs, has just been sentenced. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion in the foot. It’s about a situation from 2020, when the couple was returning from a party. The artist’s lawyers informed that he will appeal against the verdict.

Tory Lanez is one of the most popular rappers in the world today. He recently released the single “Hurts Me”, which previously went viral on TikTok. He recorded the song behind bars, waiting for the verdict for the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, which was passed on Tuesday in the Los Angeles Supreme Court.

Tory Lanez shot Megan Thee Stallion. There is a verdict

Judge David Herriford sentenced Tory Lanez to 10 years in prison. Before the verdict, the musician, addressing the judge, expressed remorse for what he had done. “I take full responsibility for everything I did that night. If I could change it, I would,” he said, adding that he is now “trying to be a better person.”

The rapper faced a maximum of 22 years and 8 months in prison for a cumulative three counts – assault with a semi-automatic weapon, possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm in a car and using it to cause bodily harm. However, the prosecution only asked for Lanez to be sentenced to 13 years in prison:

The accused not only committed the heinous act of shooting, but also made the next 2.5 years hell for her (Megan Thee Stallion), said Assistant District Attorney Alex Bott, quoted by NBC News.

The official thus referred to accusing the rapper of lying, intimidating and harassing her, which the rapper allegedly committed. “He not only shot me, he also mocked my trauma,” Megan Thee Stallion said in a statement read in the courtroom on Monday, excerpts of which were quoted by the portal.

The rapper did not show up for the trial, and Lanez’s defense team tried to ask for a three-year suspended prison sentence and release for substance abuse treatment. They also mentioned that the man suffers from alcohol addiction as well as anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder caused by the unexpected death of his mother in childhood, which was also supposed to affect his behavior on July 12, 2020.

Lanez looked surprised after the verdict was announced. The musician did not refer to the punishment received in any way, but only during the trial he admitted that he “takes full responsibility” for his actions. Earlier, he repeatedly denied the words of the artist. Matthew Barhoma, a member of the rapper’s legal team, has already announced that both his conviction and sentence will be appealed in his case.
