Orange oil – characteristics
is one of the most popular natural essential oils. It is obtained by cold pressing dried orange peel, although it can also be produced by hydro-distillation. Oranges, i.e. fruits, thanks to which we can use this product at all, are grown in Italy, Spain, Brazil and the United States, among others. From a distance, it can be recognized by its refreshing, citrus aroma, in which you can feel both sweetness and delicate bitterness.
People willingly reach for orange oil because it has a number of properties that have a very positive effect on the human body. It contains volatile active substances, including geranial, linalool, decanal, limonene and terpineol. This product works:
- antiseptic;
- cleansing;
- anti-inflammatory;
- antioxidant;
- enabling efficient wound healing;
- soothes digestive ailments;
- relaxing and calming;
- supporting the work of the nervous system;
- helps to maintain concentration;
- improving the condition of the skin, including its tension;
- reducing the secretion of sebum.
Orange oil – application
Where can orange be used? The application of this specificity is very diverse. It can be used, for example, to:
- enriching ready-made cosmetics or those that you have created yourself – usually shampoos, hair masks, face creams or body lotions;
- aromatherapy;
- relaxation bath;
- for cleaning agents (those that are used to clean floors and bathrooms);
- to repel insects.

Are you planning to buy orange oil? The price of this product is about PLN 80-90 for 100 ml. You can find it at your pharmacy, local drug store, and some health food stores.
Orange oil – how to make it yourself?
How to make an orange? To prepare it you will need:
- orange peel (you can get it from any orange fruit);
- a base oil of your choice with a neutral smell, for example linseed oil or olive oil;
- paper towel;
- screw top jar;
- gauze;
- dark glass bottle.
First you need to peel the orange. This one, however, deprive the white, bitter-tasting shell and cut into pieces. Then spread it on a paper towel, and when it dries, it will be ready for proper drying. You can do it with a fruit dryer or in the oven.
Wait until the orange peel becomes crisp and hard, then place it in the jar. In the next step, you need to pour it with the selected oil (the most important thing is that it should be thoroughly covered by the liquid). Leave the jar with the resulting mixture for a month in a sunny place. Remember to shake it regularly (for example, every two or three days).
When it’s ready, pour it through cheesecloth into a dark glass bottle. In order not to lose its properties and serve as long as possible, store it in a dry and dark place.
