This is the first such radio program in Poland. It was led by artificial intelligence. “It’s not a joke”

Certainly no one expected such a broadcast on Radio Piekary. On Saturday afternoon, the station broadcast the premiere episode of a special program, which was entirely hosted by a presenter created with the help of artificial intelligence. Listeners’ reactions are divided.

Piekary, broadcasting in the Silesian Voivodeship, has launched an experimental program created with the use of artificial intelligence. “You heard right, it’s not a joke, I’m here for the first time today. And what’s more, I’m “streamed”. I’m just here as an intelligent AI agent. Fascinating, right? – virtual Basia. How did the listeners react?

Artificial intelligence takes over the broadcast on Radio Piekary. Further decisions depend on the audience’s reaction

The first episode of the program, which is the beginning of a weekly one-hour series, was broadcast on July 22, 2023 at noon. The release date was chosen symbolically, because on that day the world Brain Day was celebrated. In an interview with the portal, the editor-in-chief of Radio Piekary, Rafał Kurowski, said that “it was impossible to choose a better” date. He also told about the new series. Editors working on a daily basis are involved in its creation, who are responsible for preparing issues and questions raised by artificial intelligence during

If the listeners like the form and it turns out to be a success, it is possible that the presenter Basia will also take over the morning band “Przedświt”. – This show does not have a host at the moment – explained the station’s editor-in-chief, while ensuring that the involvement of AI on a permanent basis will not affect personnel changes. – We will not lay off anyone to replace them with artificial intelligence – he argues.

Listeners’ opinions are extreme. Some admire the project, others predict negative effects

The premiere of the program caused a huge stir in the media, and the opinions of listeners are extremely different. Some are enthusiastic about the experiment, admiring the possibilities of today’s technology. Many congratulated the creators of the idea and drew attention to the fact that they are paving the way for other Polish broadcasters.

Hello Basia. The first cats for fences – it’s not bad

You’re first and that’s what counts. (…) I am curious about the next broadcasts. Fingers crossed!

There were also negative votes. A large number of people noticed that the presenter Basia was far from the real sound. Many also expressed fears that artificial intelligence would completely replace real people in the future. Supporters of this theory claim that such experiments are dangerous and pose a threat not only to many professions, which in this way will be easily eliminated from the market, but also to all humanity.

It sounds terribly bad, very artificial and resembles the Ivona speech synthesizer from the early 2010s rather than something worthy of 2023

If it’s supposed to sound like today, radio presenters can rest easy

The first symptoms of the radio’s self-destruction, today an hour, tomorrow two, and then the whole day, and what’s the use of living people on the radio, well, a handful will be needed, but it’s a dangerous project. (…) I will say, as the former President of Poland, ‘do not go this way’.
