The scariest movie of the year is coming. “Terrifier 2” may turn out to be a bedtime story next to “Infinity Pool”

Brandon Cronenberg in the latest film “Infinity Pool” shows that he can break the mold, combining brutality and perversion with science-fiction elements. After screenings of the production at the Sundance festival and at the Berlinale, media from around the world emphasize that it may be the most shocking film of the year. In Poland, viewers will see it for the first time as part of this year’s edition of the New Horizons film festival, and it will soon hit the cinemas.

In the fall of last year, the slasher “Terrifier 2” aroused real fear among people. The movie was billed as very scary because people in the US started leaving the theaters due to fainting and nausea. but we all have different sensitivities.

In “Infinity Pool” paradise turns into hell on earth

This year’s candidate for the title of “the scariest film of the year” is “Infinity Pool” directed by Brandon Cronenberg, who is the eldest son of one of the most recognizable creators of genre cinema, i.e. David Cronenberg.

Although people didn’t rush out of the theaters during the screening, the title caused quite a stir at the Sundance Film Festival. The American media wrote about the shocking scenes of violence and sex that we can see in it. However, the main driver of the film’s brutality is its plot, which David Fear of “” called “‘White Lotus’ on steroids.”

The protagonists of the film are a couple in love, James (Alexander Skarsgård) and Em (Mia Goth), who are on an exclusive vacation in a fictional country that is supposed to resemble one of the countries of Eastern Europe. The resort has all the amenities, and beyond its borders there are many dangerous but interesting places. In addition, there is a restrictive law in which crime is punishable by death.

Despite this, the main characters decide to visit a forbidden place for tourists, where, to make matters worse, James hit a pedestrian. Then various perverse secrets of the sanctuary begin to come to light, as well as an unusual chance to save from execution. Well, well-to-do tourists can be cloned and punish their doppelgänger. However, the road to salvation is not as easy as it may seem.

“Infinity Pool” also screened at this year’s Berlinale where it received mixed reviews, but overall reviewers praise the title. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film scored 87% freshness, which is a very good result. Certainly scenes full of bestial violence and perverse sex are not interesting for everyone, but many viewers will certainly want to see the title out of pure curiosity. In Poland, the film will soon hit cinemas, and it will premiere on July 21 during this year’s New Horizons Film Festival in Wrocław.
