The organization of the Primavera Sound festival has announced that will not hold a new edition in 2024 in the city of Madrid.

The decision comes after weeks of “exhaustive assessment” of what was the first edition of this meeting in Madrid. This is how they explain it in a statement, in which they advance that “in 2024 the festival will not be able to be held in Madrid” and explain their reasons.

These have to do with the “external” problems and difficulties that the festival had to face at the end of the preparation process. And it is that, as stated by the direction of Primavera Sound, “The city does not have an enclosure capable of hosting with guarantees an event of our magnitude and format in terms of public demands, production requirements and musical display”.

They make the 2023 edition a “more than satisfactory balance on a musical level”, but they acknowledge that the expectations that existed were not met and the experience of the public, due to logistical issues, was not what they would have wanted. It should be noted that the concerts on the first day of this festival -there were going to be concerts from Thursday to Sunday- had to be canceled because due to storms.

“Within the City of Rock there was a festival full of great musical moments, but we are not oblivious to some inconveniences,” Almudena Heredero, director of Primavera Sound Madrid, detailed in the statement. So from this experience, they pick up “lessons”.

However, they assure that they will continue working so that Madrid once again has a Primavera Soundalthough “right now there are no guarantees to be able to offer a festival in 2024 that meets the quality standards that this festival is used to offering.”

In the note, he adds that for now they are focused on making the next editions of Primavera Sound in Barcelona (from May 30 to June 2) and Porto (from June 7 to 9) the festival they want.
