Iconic adaptations
“Emigration XD” dir. Łukasz Ko¶micki is a film adaptation of the cult prose of Malcolm XD with Tomasz W³osok and Michał Balicki in the lead roles. This series is full of great stories, funny punchlines, meaty dialogue and very original characters that you root for from start to finish, no matter what. Malcolm and Stomil, two agents of chaos from a small Polish town, cross the Polish-British border to start a new life in exile and earn a lot of money. At this point, the serial roller coaster ride begins.
The dark atmosphere is the hallmark of “The King”, an adaptation of Szczepan Twardoch’s excellent novel of the same title. Set in pre-war Warsaw, the moving story of a boxer and gangster, Jakub Szapiro (played by the excellent Micha³ ¯urawski), was directed by Jan P. Matuszyński (“The Last Family”, “Let There Be No Traces”). Here we have a picture of a multicultural capital torn apart by numerous conflicts and a multi-level history of mafia violence. ¯urawski on the screen is partnered by, among others Arkadiusz Jakubik, Andrzej Seweryn, Adam Ferency and Borys Szyc. The series “Król” was awarded the Eagle 2021 statuette in the “Best Fiction Series” category.

“¯mijowisko” dir. by £ukasz Palkowski is an adaptation of a book by one of the most widely read authors of Polish detective stories, Wojciech Chmielarz. The title “¯mijowisko” is an agritourism farm. During a holiday party, 15-year-old Ada (Hania Koczewska), the daughter of Arek (Pawe³ Domaga³a) and Kamila (Agnieszka ¯ulewska), disappears there. Arek doesn’t give up and looks for Ada, although everyone has decided that the mystery of her disappearance cannot be solved. Thus, he enters the road that leads him to real hell.

Criminal darkness
Michał ¯urawski played police commissioner Adam Kruk in the hit crime series “Kruk” prepared by CANAL+. Three six-episode seasons with suspenseful stories about the dark business of Podlaskie gangsters, dark folk rituals and terrifying recesses of the human soul. The main character faces traumas from his past and solves complicated criminal puzzles. The director of the series is Maciej Pieprzyca (“Life Feels Good”, “I am a Murderer”, “Roe. “Klangor” dir. Łukasz Ko¶micki has the atmosphere of the best Scandinavian series and is a Polish production to the core. Cold seaside landscapes are the background for crime and a captivating story about interpersonal relations in extremely difficult moments of life. Arkadiusz Jakubik plays a prison psychologist who is looking for his missing daughter. The series also starred m.in. Maja Ostaszewska, Aleksandra Popławska, Wojciech Mecwaldowski. Death, laughter and fear
“A minute of silence” dir. Jacek Lusiñski (“¦ubuk”) is compared to the cult “Six Feet Under”. This six-episode series is an unusual mix of drama and black comedy. Robert Wieckiewicz gives a concert performance of a retired postman from a small town who unexpectedly becomes the owner of a funeral parlour.
Mietek Zasada is an ordinary guy with principles. A combination of strange circumstances forces her to change her life by 180 degrees. It all starts with the suicide of his closest friend and problems with the burial. Why did Mietek Zasada become an undertaker?
