They are mostly planted in hedges. These are decorative plants that grow up to 2.5 meters in height and are a great protection against the prying eyes of neighbors or passers-by. What to plant under thujas to make our garden look even more beautiful?
What do thujas not like? Take care of the right soil and position
are coniferous plants from Asia and North America. We can plant them almost throughout the season – mid-April to mid-October. They grow best in semi-shady and sunny positions on well-drained, fertile and slightly moist soil. Let us remember that thujas do not like replanting and after changing the place they cannot always take hold, so when choosing a place for a thuja, choose one that will stay there permanently. They also need pruning. We do it three times a year – at the turn of March and April we shorten the shoots by 1/3 of their length, similarly during the summer pruning around June. The last time we cut in August by 1-2 cm.

What to plant under thujas? Which plants should be avoided?
Under thujas it is best to plant plants that feel good on similar substrate and positions. Good neighbors for thuja are rhododendrons, hydrangeas, ornamental grasses, border roses and honeysuckle. Cypresses, holly, junipers, barberries and small varieties of spruce will also work great. Plants that have different soil requirements should not be planted under thujas. Lavender, boxwood, yew, yucca, and alpine violets certainly do not get along with thujas, and planting them nearby threatens to waste plants.
