Wonka is set to hit theaters on December 15, 2023. This is a new adaptation of the book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” beloved by millions of children around the world – the novel remains one of the best-selling items in the children’s literature category to this day. This time, director Paul King (he made the film about Paddington Bear!) and producer David Heyman, who previously worked on the Harry Potter series or the Oscar-winning “Gravity”, decided to show the viewers how the world’s greatest inventor, a magician and chocolate maker became Willy Wonka, whom the whole world loved.
“Wonka”. There’s a lot going on in the trailer!
Willy Wonka traveled around the world for seven years to perfect his art. Its chocolate is truly unique and has truly magical properties. But there are people in town who really want Wonka not to succeed, and people who can’t dream and have their heads in the proverbial clouds. So before the masses can enjoy Wonka’s delicacies, our hero has quite a journey ahead of him. The trailer barely gives a taste of the whole thing, and you can already see that there is a lot going on there:
The creators are already announcing an intoxicating mix of magic, music, emotions, humor and a story told from the heart. The main role is played by the audience’s favorite, and he was accompanied on the set by a veritable pleiad of really great actors and actresses. The production cast included Oscar winner Olivia Coleman, Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins. Fans of “Downtown Abbey” will be happy to know that Jim Carter is also playing, and we will also see Rowan Atkinson, who, as in the case of the cult comedy “Four Weddings and a Funeral”, plays the priest here. Speaking of this production, let’s emphasize that he plays a small, but feisty and charming Umpa Lumpa here, and the trailer shows a sample of his dancing skills. Also starring: Calah Lane, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Bayton, Natasha Rothwell, Rich Fulcher, Rakhee Thakarar, Tom Davis and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith.
Let’s add that the production design is by nominee Nathan Crowley, who previously worked on such productions as “Tenet” and “Dunkirk”, and the costumes were already created by Oscar-winning Lindy Hemmington – she and editor Mark Everson previously worked on films about Paddington.
