A Polish woman in England approached the Polish food department. “Until she grabbed her head”

Some time ago, one of the readers of Fakt daily went grocery shopping in Great Britain. Browsing through the section with Polish food, she came across, among others for spices, juices, mayonnaise, sweets or pickles. And there would be nothing strange about it – if not for the prices; the woman clutched her head at the sight of them.

“This is just expensive!” – commented the reader of Fakt, sending photos to the editorial office. It turns out that yes, in the UK you can easily buy many products – some, however, are even twice as expensive as in our country.

Shopping “in Polish” in Great Britain

Getting Polish food products in the UK has not been a problem for a long time. Just go to one of the “Polish shops”, warehouses with the so-called. colonial goods or to one of the largest retail chains on the islands – ASDA. It is an extensive chain of supermarkets; in the offer we will find e.g. groceries, household products and clothing.

– One of our compatriots, shopping in one of the stores of this chain, but also in the “Bedronska” warehouse with goods from Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, came across entire racks filled with food from Poland – Fakt daily. Most likely, however, the Polish woman did not expect the prices she saw. “It’s just junk!“- she commented briefly.

Prices of individual products up to twice as high

It turns out that because of some products in the UK we will spend twice as much as in Poland. For example, we will pay for a two-liter carton of Tymbark juice in a supermarket around PLN 5-6. On the other hand, in the UK you have to set yourself up for the cost of 2.65 pounds, or about PLN 14. Further: the photos sent to the editorial office of Fakt also show the price of Chranchips – £ 1.85 per pack (140 g), which is the equivalent of PLN 9.60. In turn, in a Polish supermarket, we can buy a salty snack for about PLN 7.

However, there are exceptions and products whose price in the UK does not increase, and even decreases. – A jar of silage (850 g) costs 1.15 pounds in the UK, which translates to about PLN 6. You can find such cabbage in Poland at a similar price, but they are also more expensive – even up to PLN 10-12 per jar – informs Fakt. When comparing prices between the two countries, however, it is worth mentioning that in the UK there is a 20% discount. VAT on food – add to that customs duties, veterinary and sanitary fees and significant transport costs.
