The house “was covered in blood”. They killed his parents because they forbade them from seeing each other

Rakowiska is a small village located near the border with Biała Podlaska. Eight years ago, all of Poland heard about it. All because of a brutal murder committed by a couple of teenagers. The prosecutor directly said that he had never heard of such an “absurd and shocking crime” in his career.

Zuzanna and Kamil met in a Catholic middle school. After graduating from high school, their paths diverged as they chose other high schools. In high school, they renewed their acquaintance and became a couple. 18-year-old Zuzanna was already known in Biała Podlaska. She wrote poems, gave interviews, as Maria Goniewicz she also published a book of poetry. It was the death of her father that influenced her decision to pursue a career in poetry. Kamil was considered a quiet and calm teenager.

She – a poet who “had an aversion to intellectual rabble”, he – an only child “from a good home”

Susanna had a reputation among her peers. She was known to play truant, used drugs, and shared marijuana with her schoolmates.

I know the value of my work, so I don’t care about the opinion of a few individuals who don’t understand ‘what the author meant’. I share Witkiewicz’s opinion here. I, too, ‘have such an aversion to mental trash that I puke’. (…) All [co napisałam] it was created on impulse, not coercion or, even worse, simply the desire to become a poet, because it is now fashionable. NO. I consider vulnerability to be my biggest flaw or even my undoing, so I try to get rid of it by writing poems

– she told in one of the interviews she cites “”. Kamil was an only child “from a good home”, for many the complete opposite of a girl. They spent every moment together. Kamil’s father was a colonel of the Border Guard Headquarters, and his mother was a translator and teacher of Russian. The parents did not accept their son’s relationship, and Zuzanna aroused their mistrust. They said it was leading him astray. – The toxicity of this relationship was seen by everyone, the teachers saw it, the tutor saw it. He became a completely different person. He probably stopped having other friends besides Zuzanna. He also accepted Susanna’s views on certain matters. He became a copy of her – Kamil’s classmate in the courtroom. Jerzy N. and Agnieszka N. finally forbade their son to meet the girl.

This was to provoke Zuzanna and Kamil, who decided to get rid of the “obstacle” to their relationship. They both admired American cinema, films by Quentin Tarantino and David Lynch. Their favorite, however, was “American Psycho”, in which the main character, a businessman played by Christian Bale, murders to kill boredom. During one of the screenings, they joked that they could kill the 18-year-old’s parents. They quickly moved from joking to planning a crime. On December 12, they went to Warsaw for the necessary equipment – rubber gloves and overalls. Zuzanna was to be inconsolable that she did not manage to get a coat like that of the hero of “American Psycho”. They planned a trip to Krakow for the next day.

They murdered Kamil’s parents. A neighbor called the police. “I haven’t seen anything like this since I’ve been in the service”

On December 13, 2014, a neighbor of the N. family, alerted by the screams heard at night and the ajar entrance door to the house, called . When officers arrived on the scene, they found a dramatic sight. – The house is covered in blood. I haven’t seen anything like it since I’ve been in the service. The scenery is worse than in horror movies – recalled one of them in an interview with “Gazeta Wyborcza”. The perpetrators inflicted dozens of stab wounds on the victims. 48-year-old Jerzy N. was lying in the bedroom, he had marks on his hands indicating that the couple had tried to cut off his hands, on which there was a bite mark from Zuzanna’s DNA. Agnieszka N., 42, was lying by the front door. She managed to escape, but was dragged back inside by her son, who slit her throat. As the policemen recalled, there was blood everywhere, even outside the house.

After the murder, they went to Krakow. When the police stopped them, they were “in high spirits”

When the officers examined the place, Kamil and Zuzanna were in Krakow. They had already provided an alibi by saying that they would be attending a poetry reading. They were taken by friends who, on the way from Warsaw to Krakow, at the request of the couple, stopped in Rakowiska. Zuzanna was supposed to say that she forgot her laptop. After they got back to the car. It was in Krakow that they were detained by the police. – They’re both in great spirits. They just ate spaghetti with spinach in a restaurant, one of the investigators told Gazeta Wyborcza.

The court sentenced them to 25 years in prison. Zbigniew Ziobro wanted a higher sentence

Until the murder happened right away, they initially showed no remorse. They told in detail what they had done during the night and how they had planned the crime. Psychologists and psychiatrists who examined them for several weeks concluded that they had acted together that night, cheering each other on while committing the crime. When it was confirmed that they were sane, the indictment was sent to the court. During the trial, Zuzanna and Kamil exchanged blame, accusing each other. This line of defense was adopted by the lawyers of both perpetrators. Kamil’s defender emphasized that Kamila persuaded him to murder his parents. Her lawyer, in turn, explained that she would do anything for the boy, and the crime was his idea.

On December 4, 2015, the court announced its verdict. For the murder of the boy’s parents, Kamil N. and Zuzanna M. were sentenced to 25 years in prison. Both the defense and the prosecution appealed, claiming that the sentence was too lenient. She demanded a life sentence, just like Zbigniew Ziobro. – I have never encountered such an absurd and shocking crime – in 2015, prosecutor Marek Maksymowicz. Both appeals and the cassation of the Minister of Justice and the Prosecutor General are considered by the court.
