W³adys³aw Hañcza was one of the greatest actors of his generation. Although more than 45 years have passed since his death, viewers still return with sentiment to their favorite productions with his participation. What does Kargul’s grave from “Sami Swoich” look like today?

His adventure with acting began in 1927, when he began studying at the Dramatic School at the Polish Radio Theater in Poznań. It was also then that he made his stage debut in Wyspiański’s “November Night”. At that time, he was a student of two faculties: philosophy and Polish studies, although initially he planned to continue the family tradition by becoming a textile worker.

In 1927, he took the ZASP exam, obtaining the title of actor. Initially, he performed mainly on theater stages, e.g. in Katowice, Toruń, Łódź and Poznań. He even got a job at the National Theater in Warsaw, but the outbreak of the war prevented him from realizing these plans. After its completion, he played his first role on the screen. At that time, he created the role of kapo in the film “Two Hours” directed by Stanisław Wohl. “Acting, in my opinion, is not about impersonation. It’s about expressing the content of the role through your own individuality. It is the privilege and duty of an actor. Otherwise, it’s a declamation – .

Hańcza appeared in nearly 40 titles, although he usually played supporting roles. Despite this, he was characteristic and attracted attention, which made the characters he created permanently engraved in the memory of the viewers. He has collaborated with many prominent directors, e.g. Kazimierz Kutz, , Jerzy Hoffman or . One of his most outstanding acting creations was the character of Władysław Kargul in the comedy trilogy, which consists of: “Nie mamocnych” and “Love or throw”.

“My greed comes from haste. Who knows what is written for whom? I was prophesied that I would die at the age of 72, there was little time left to enjoy the smiles of fate – he said in one of the interviews. In the last months of his life he struggled with the disease, but it is not known exactly what ails him. However, the situation became serious when he ended up in one of Warsaw’s hospitals. He died on November 19, 1977 at the age of 72.
