The Foundation calls the verdict “an unprecedented court ruling against a massive violation of rights as a result of a smear campaign initiated by Telewizja Polska”. “After 6 years from the first defamation and 4 years of court proceedings, TVP was forced to apologize for lies and pay compensation” – informs the Open Dialog Foundation in social media. According to the judgment of the court of first instance, in addition to the apology, TVP is also to pay a total of PLN 200,000. PLN compensation.
TVP must apologize exactly at 19:30. Earlier, she accelerated “Wiadomości”
The content of the apology is to be presented for 60 days in the upper part of the website, before all other content on the “Wiadomości” website, tvp.info, vod.tvp.pl and polandin.com. The apology is also to appear in the main edition of “Wiadomości” at 19:30 as the first content. The court decided to determine the exact time, following a precedent – when “Wiadomości” was forced to apologize to the TVN journalist, the broadcast of the program began five minutes early. Therefore, TV viewers who are used to a fixed broadcast time and turned on their televisions at 19:30, did not see the awarded apology.
The Open Dialog Foundation, making the judgment of June 13 public, points out in the post that TVP must apologize for “37 false publications” and emphasizes that “this is only a fraction of several hundred false publications aimed at us”. You can also read:
Since PiS came to power, TVP has been unjustifiably accusing the Open Dialog Foundation of ‘financing its activities with Russian money’, ‘trying to cause a bloody Maidan in Poland’, ‘money laundering of oligarchs’, ‘working for secret services of Russia, Brussels, Germany and Soros against the Polish authorities’. The real reason for the persecution by the Polish authorities was the criticism of the government and the defense of independent courts in Poland in the international arena.
What does the Open Dialog Foundation do?
As you can read on the Open Dialog website, the foundation was established in Poland in 2009 on the initiative of Lyudmyla Kozlovska, a Ukrainian student and civic activist, who is currently the president.
“Since its foundation, the statutory objectives of the Foundation include the protection of human rights, democracy and the rule of law in the post-Soviet area. Initially, the Foundation focused its attention primarily on Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine and – since 2016 – Moldova, but in July 2017 this area was extended due to the rapidly deteriorating situation in Poland and other EU Member States struggling with the consequences of the anti-liberal policies pursued by their populist governments.
