loved by theater fans and her film and series roles. During the first year of her studies at the acting department at the PWST in Warsaw, she played the role of Zosia in Andrzej Wajda’s The Wedding, the last production in which she played was the series “Rodzina Zastępca”, where she played the role of Anna Kwiatkowska for almost ten years.
Many men loved Gabriela Kownacka. She married only once
The actress’s private life was a bit more complicated than what fans knew from the screen. In 1975, she married Waldemar Kownacki, and eight years later their son Franciszek was born. The marriage lasted ten years, then the actress did not remarry, although she was associated with the operator Witold Adamek and Krzysztof Janczar. In interviews, she emphasized that she had come to terms with the passage of time, she no longer needed compliments and acceptance to love herself. “I no longer need to see myself in someone’s eyes to seek confirmation that I am still beautiful and valuable. I don’t have to be liked by everyone, either as an actress or as a woman,” she told Na Żywo in an interview.
However, Kownacka acted like a magnet on men. Her charm and class, which she could charm viewers, playing Marilyn Monroe or playing in films such as “Because I’m crazy for her” meant that fans could not take their eyes off the actress. Among those fascinated by the beauty, talent and temperament of the star was Krzysztof Janczar, who met Kownacka at the National Theatre. The infatuation was doomed to failure because the actress was happily married at the time. Eventually, the actors’ paths crossed when they were both divorced. They spent four years together. “I was at a funeral. I bent over the grave, left a flower. I will never forget her…” – quotes the Onet actor.
Waldemar Kownacki took care of his ex-wife until the end. He was with her when she left
Kownacka was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004. The treatment brought positive results, thanks to which the actress returned to the set of “Foster Family” during the illness, to the delight of the fans. Unfortunately, in 2008 her condition worsened. The artist’s friends helped her as much as they could, in March 2009 a charity concert for the actress was held at the National Theater. Gabriela Kownacka died on November 30, 2010.
Although the actress was loved by many men, her ex-husband was by her side until the end. The star did not want to show herself to anyone in poor condition, she trusted Kownacki. He and his son Franciszek took care of the sick actress until the end of her days. “It was an exceptionally beautiful couple and wonderful people. Their relationship did not last long, but a beautiful friendship remained. Such love happens once in a million. After the divorce, she did not find a worthy successor to Waldemar” – Laura Łącz, a family friend of the Viva portal.
