The year 1996 was one of the most important for all Polish fans. On September 20, the king of pop played in Warsaw’s Bemowo as part of the HIStory World Tour. It was his first and last performance in the country on the Vistula River.

The arrival to Poland was a great event for the whole country. Crowds gathered at the Warsaw airport to solemnly welcome the idol. Among the gathered were also children from the folk Pruszkowiacy, who, according to the plan, were to sing the song “Kukułeczko, where you used to be”. – To this day, I do not know how our director organized it, that we were invited from so many bands all over Poland, it was really a distinction – recalled Anna Tokaj in an interview for the portal, who turned out to be the luckiest of all the children performing. You can guess that in such a noisy place as the airport, the singing was almost constantly drowned out by planes landing and departing. Still, he seemed excited. At some point, one of the girls emerged from the line to give Jackson a small gift.

The girl in question was Anna Tokaj. She was 8 years old at the time. With trembling hands, she approached the railings to hand over a doll in folk costume. Then Jackson’s manager suggested that she come closer and hand over the gift in person. She agreed immediately, although she was accompanied by great stress. Delighted Jackson thanked her for the gift, and after a while he took her hand and marched a few meters on the tarmac. Years later, the woman recalls that the meeting with the idol was accompanied by great emotions, which, despite the passage of time, are still alive in her. “Everyone started screaming, squealing, they stopped singing. After this situation, these older bandmates came up to me, grabbed my hand, I didn’t know what they were doing at all, I didn’t understand it – she recalled in an interview, adding that there is one thing she can’t forgive herself to this day .
Just before the aforementioned performance, Tokaj was told not to take papers or pens with him to the airport, because everyone assumed that Jackson would not have time to sign autographs to anyone. However, if she had not followed this advice, today she would have a souvenir not only in the form of photos. – This man is a symbol for me, because as one of the few Polish women I had the opportunity to be with him, many fans would “kill themselves” to be in my place, and I accidentally got there and it’s special for me – said Anna Tokay.
