Pectus debuted on the music market in 2005 and almost immediately gained popularity among listeners, conquering the charts. It consists of four Szczepanik brothers: Tomasz, Marek, Mateusz and Maciej. Although today they lead a peaceful and prosperous life, in the past they also experienced poverty. The difficult financial situation of the family, however, translated into a strong and lasting bond, which they cultivate to this day. What was their career path like?
The Szczepanik brothers did not have an easy life. Their parents barely made ends meet
The eldest of the Szczepanik brothers is Tomasz, who was born in 1981. Five years later, the family grew by two children, the twins Marek and Mateusz, and two years later Maciej was born. Future musicians spent their childhood in a small house located near Tarnów. They never hid that they came from a poor family. — Mom was a confectioner for over 10 years and worked nights. We had one bread, two rolls and several donuts, that was the allocation per employee – the leader of the Pectus team in one of the interviews. In turn, their father worked as a bricklayer. When they were children, he decided to go abroad to earn money. He was rarely at home, but he cared about his relationship with his sons and spent as much time with them as possible. “Father taught me that there is no letting go,” he added.
Although Bogumiła and Tadeusz Szczepanik worked hard to provide their children with a dignified and prosperous life, the family barely made ends meet for a long time. The house was often short of money, there was no running water, no bathroom or toilet. They could not afford new clothes, so the brothers often exchanged what they already had. “The home was poor and spartan. There was no water tap in the house, we had an outhouse 50 meters from the house and we had a bath in the pelvis – said Tomasz Szczepanik.

It may also come as a surprise to many that the four of them shared one small room. Everyone agrees that at times it was unbearable for them, especially when someone wanted some privacy and peace, but thanks to this they built a strong bond that they cultivate to this day. “The room we grew up in was so cramped and so small and we were so close that we still have that closeness,” he said.
Although fate has not spared them, they are grateful for the experiences from years ago. The difficult family situation made them learn to appreciate life and persistently pursue their goals. Their parents always supported them in realizing their dreams. They believed that thanks to persistent work they would achieve success and today they are their biggest fans. — The strength of the brothers, which we took from our family home, is the most important value that we can share at our concerts and in life in general. The values we always talk about at concerts: respect and love, were passed down to us by our parents and grandparents. That’s where it all started, he said.
