“Indiana Jones and the Artifact of Destiny”. Ford’s fifth time as Indiana Jones, and there was another candidate for the role

The road to the top of Harrison Ford was not easy. Today, he is one of the most popular actors in the world, but we almost never see him on the big screen. The actor may not have played his two biggest roles – including Indiana Jones.

Harrison Ford is 80 years old, but he is not thinking about retirement. A few years ago, he returned to the role of Han Solo in the new Star Wars trilogy and Rick Deckard in the “Blade Runner” prequel. Indiana Jones and the Artifact of Destiny hits theaters on June 30, where the actor will reprise his role as the titular character.

Harrison Ford wasn’t supposed to play Indiana Jones. The actor thanked for turning down the role

Today, Ford is a distinguished creator and one of the most popular actors in the world. He has a list of prestigious awards under his belt, and during the last Cannes festival, the audience awarded the 80-year-old with a five-minute standing ovation. The actor also received an honorary Golden Palm for lifetime achievement that evening. Although today we cannot imagine cinema without Ford’s character, back then his success in the profession was not so obvious.

Although the movie Indiana Jones dreamed of a career in acting, the environment rather discouraged him from this profession. The artist, discouraged by worse and worse job offers and lack of stability, became a carpenter. Fortunately, the actor got a chance, and George Lucas cast him in the movie “American Graffiti”. But that wasn’t enough to make Ford’s name come to the director’s mind when casting the first Star Wars movie. Someone else could have played Han Solo. As it turns out, this is not the only cult role today that Harrison Ford might not get.

40 years after the premiere of the first Indiana Jones film, Harrison Ford has decided to be honest. In an interview with Deadline, he thanked Tom Selleck, who turned down the role, which made Ford the most popular archaeologist in the world.

It’s about the series “Magnum,” in which Selleck played Thomas Magnum, a war veteran who works as a private investigator in Hawaii. The series ran for eight seasons, with the premiere episode released on December 11, 1980.
