The new animated movie Krakens and Mermaids: Meet the Gillmans, Directed by Kirk DeMicco (The Croods) plunges into the choppy waters of a high school with a hilarious and heartfelt action comedy about a shy teenager who discovers she is part of a legendary royal line of mythical sea squatters and that her destiny, in the depths of the oceans, lies deeper than I ever dared to dream.

With the English voices of Lana Condor, Toni ColletteAnnie Murphy, Sam Richardson, Liza Koshy, Will Forte, Colman Domingo and the legendary Jane Fonda, the film will premiere in Ecuador on Thursday, June 29.

Sweet and insecure 16-year-old Ruby Gillman (Lana Condor) is desperate to fit in at Oceanside High, but she feels invisible most of the time and, at home, her overprotective mother (Toni Collette) has forbidden Ruby to go into the water.

But By breaking that rule, Ruby will discover that she is a direct descendant of the Kraken warrior queens and is destined to inherit her grandmother’s throne. (Jane Fonda), the warrior queen of the seven seas.

“For centuries these creatures (the Krakens) have been slandered and told to sink ships and drown sailors. But shouldn’t we question all these assumptions in 2023? What if the krakens weren’t monsters but just victims of a terrible PR crisis? They were not the horrors of the sea: they were the protectors,” said the director.

The Kraken has sworn to protect the world’s oceans from vain and power-hungry sirens. And the problems only get worse when the beautiful and popular new girl at school, Chelsea (Annie Murphy), turns out to be a mermaid. Can Ruby accept who she is and act to protect those she loves most?

DreamWorks has a long tradition of incorporating an unexpected hero, like a chubby panda or an ogre with a heart of gold, and subvert public expectations. We take what you think is an evil sea monster and convince you that she really is the hero.”, he noted Variety producer Kelly Cooney Cilella.
