26-year-old guitarist Ryan Siew has died. They played their last concert without him, the day before the tragedy

Ryan Siew, guitarist for Australian metalcore band Polaris, has died. The musician passed away at the age of only 26.

Friends from the boy’s band informed about the death of the young artist. The musician died in the morning of June 19, 2023, earlier the group canceled several European concerts. The cause of death of the 26-year-old was not disclosed.

“It is with a broken heart and deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear brother and bandmate,” Polaris wrote nine days after the tragic event. “For 10 amazing years, Ryan was our best friend and artistic soul mate,” declare the musicians.

In a sad statement, the artists emphasized how great an artist, but also a man Siew was. “He was kind-hearted, smart, funny, creative and very talented. He loved art and appreciated beauty in all its forms. He loved good food in great company, Harry Potter, psychological thrillers and mysteries. He also loved music, so diverse that it couldn’t be any more and spoke her language in a way that is rarely heard,” the Polaris post read.

Ryan Siew joined Polaris in 2013, taking over from lead guitarist Rick Shneider, who switched to rhythm guitar. The 26-year-old played on both albums released by metalcore bands – “Mortal Coil” from 2017 and “Death of Me” published three years later. The band has also planned the premiere of the latest album – “Fatalism” will be released on September 1.

The last concert of the Polaris group took place the day before the death of the guitarist at Graspop Metal Meeting in Belgium. Two days later, the group announced that “due to a personal crisis” it was forced to cancel the rest of the European leg of the tour.
