Koulibaly claims he signed with Al-Hilal for money and religion

Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly commented this Tuesday on his decision to sign with Al-Hilal, from Saudi Arabia. Last season, the defender was with the Chelsea after eight years wearing the colors of Napoli and has now signed a contract valid until June 2026 with the Saudi club.

In conversation with the newspaper Sports Courierfrom Italy, Koulibaly did not deny that the money was what motivated him to play in a less competitive league, but financially stronger.

“I can’t deny it, I left for the money. With that money I will be able to help my whole family live well, from my parents to my cousins. I will also be able to invest in the activities of my association Captain of the Heart (Captain of the Heart, in Portuguese), in Senegal. We are starting to build a pediatric clinic in the city where my parents were born and married. I have many projects to help young people,” he said.

In addition to the financial factor, the athlete’s religion also weighed, who explained how important this decision is for him.

“I’m Muslim, I arrive in an ideal country for me and my family. Mecca is close. I’m a believer, that’s why it’s important for me. I’m in my place, I’m here. I’m going to feel better,” he commented.

Thinking on the pitch, Koulibaly hopes to be part of the evolution of Saudi football and, of course, Al-Hilal.

“I am delighted to be one of the first to land in an evolving league. I look forward to helping Saudi Arabia and Al-Hilal write a new sporting history,” he said.
