The British people enjoyed the first King Charles Trooping the Color on Saturday 17th June. However, the 74-year-old monarch made some changes to the important celebration that apparently did not go down well with his subjects.

Charles III celebrates his first official birthday as King of England

For this year, the king decided to reduce the number of members of the royal family who appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. In 2019, more than 40 members of the royal family were in attendance, but this year there were only 14 members of the Windsors, which many considered “boring”, reports the Daily Mail.

At the 2022 celebration, at least 17 members, including the late Queen, were on the balcony, but missing this year were the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh’s children, James, Earl of Wessex and Lady Louise Windsor.

However, these two young men were present at the salute from the popular Buckingham balcony on May 6, the day of King Charles’ coronation.

Although it was a major military engagement, the last appearance of the royal family caused a lot of controversy.

As reported by the mentioned British newspaper, one supporter of the monarchy expressed his disappointment with the official photos.

He wrote on his Twitter: “So sad that the look of the balcony after #TroopingtheColour is so predictable from now on. I loved looking through the photos of the balcony to see who was there and who wasn’t. It is unnecessary and boring that this beautiful tradition has been lost,” said the user.

Despite the general dissatisfaction, the royal family left unforgettable moments. One of them was a gentle gesture by Prince William and his daughter, Princess Charlotte.

At one point, William put his hands on Charlotte’s shoulders, and she in turn pulled them closer to her. This gesture was interpreted by many as a sign of the immense love that father and daughter feel.
