The band came to Poland as part of the “Global Stadium Tour”, which promotes the group’s two latest albums – “Unlimited Love” and “Return of the Dream Canteen”. This is the band’s first tour after a five-year break, and the musicians were also accompanied in Warsaw by the legendary Iggy Pop, which warmed up the audience and proved that age does not matter. In addition, the vocalist of RHCP, Athnony Kiedis, touched the audience and thanked the Poles for their hospitality to the Ukrainians.
Red Hot Chili Peppers concert in Warsaw and “Kłuża Narodowa”
Ticket prices for the concert, depending on the chosen venue, ranged from PLN 195 to PLN 695, and according to the participants of the event, it was worth paying, although the National Stadium is a place with exceptionally poor acoustics. There were still other clashes. The atmosphere at the concert was good, but the weather in Warsaw on June 21 was capricious. On that day, heavy rain fell, the effects of which were felt by the participants of the event. “It’s so cool that we have a stadium for over a billion zlotys with a roof, it will be useful for concerts on rainy days … Oh wait. What an embarrassment that you can’t fix one thing for several months,” he wrote on Twitter under a photo of a flooded Grzegorz Nawacki, editor-in-chief of “Puls Biznesu”, watered down the slabs of the National Stadium. As it turns out, the roof was open despite the rain due to fire regulations. These say that you cannot close the roof when there are more than 17,000 people in the stadium.
We collected reports from the event from several participants. And as it turns out, the devil is not as terrible as he is painted. – After coming to the concert, there were really big puddles on the record and our shoes were soaked immediately. However, there were a lot of places on the slab where the water drained properly and it was dry. There was no rain during the concert. The organization was very efficient, there were no queues, etc. I am surprised that people go to a concert of several thousand people and expect a situation like in a theater – reports Filip, who watched the concert from the stage for Gazeta.pl.
There were also some humorous elements:
“We didn’t get wet in the stands. Only the plate was wet. A lot of people were slipping, so they went to the sides, where the roof was still going, and they often sat on this concrete. Then a few people in white cloaks came out and tried to “sweep” this water into such drain gutters. But they gave up quickly
– describes for us what Natalia saw from the top row.
– On Iggy I was standing in a puddle and, despite my high boots, I was wondering if I would get my feet wet, but it was so hot and stuffy on the record that there were not many of them left on the RHCP and they didn’t bother me. More liquid was pouring from people’s cups than from these puddles – tells us Agnieszka, who was standing on the plate in front of the stage.
Another thing is the acoustics. As it turns out, the Red Hot Chili Peppers sound system coped with the difficult conditions quite well. – The control room on the record, where I was standing, was really cool, initially there was a problem with Iggy’s vocal audibility, but they quickly got over it and then it was ok until the very end. The RHCP was the same, the vocals were razor sharp, the instruments were also very cool – adds Agnieszka, who actually stood in the best possible place.
“In this respect, the golden circle zone is quite good (directly in front of the stage – editorial note), because there are relatively few reflections. I laugh myself that it is perfect to stand where the acoustics booth is located. Because he works there and mixes so that everything sounds good to him. So, potentially, that’s where the music will be heard best. But it’s not the only solution. It’s just worth being in close range of the speaker. Of course, these settings change depending on the group playing. Certainly, the speakers are always placed next to the stage Just remember not to stand too close – with the front rail between places even two meters apart, the sound is perceived differently, so it’s a debatable place. It extends to the stands. It is also nice in terms of acoustics at the beginning of the back stand, but I warn you – there will be a problem with visibility” – explained Mirosław Michalak, sound engineer, graduate of Sound Engineering at the Faculty of Physics of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, in an interview with Gazeta.pl has been working in the sound industry for over 20 years.
Agnieszka admits that the place from which the music was listened to was of great importance. She found out for herself that the difference was audible: – During Iggy’s I went for a beer, in the corners of the stadium at the entrance and exit it was very painfully loud, very squeaking. I don’t know if it was similar on RHCP, but I suspect it was. And on the record you could hear this rumble that bounces off the stands. I hope they heard something anyway. Natalia was sitting on the right side of the stands and heard a terrible echo – like in a well. “They could not sell tickets to a sector where you can hardly hear anything” – he emphasizes.
Others were more fortunate. “The champions from the Red Hot Chili Peppers had to come to make the concert at the National Stadium sound perfect, not like from a toilet seat”, “It was definitely worth it” – we read the opinions on Twitter. “Yesterday, the acoustics were also bad. But to this barrel of tar, a generous spoonful of honey should be added. Where I was listening, between the lower and upper slabs, opposite the stage, there were various moments (and how was it at your place in other parts of the stadium?). There were unbearable moments of cacophony, but there were also moments in order – such as during the already mentioned ballad ‘I Could Have Lied’ or ‘By the Way'” – reports Łukasz Kamiński from “Gazeta Wyborcza” ().
