Golshifteh Farahani has been acting in films since childhood – she comes from an acting family and was one of the biggest movie stars in Iran. A big breakthrough in her Hollywood career was the role in Ridley Scott’s 2008’s The Web of Lies – she appeared there alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Russel Crowe. In her native Iran, however, the production caused a scandal, because in one of the scenes the actress is visible without a headgear for only a few seconds. This could have ended really badly for Farahani.
After her role in Ridley Scott, she was in danger of dying
The country’s authorities seized her passport and launched an investigation on charges of breaching national security. The investigation lasted seven months, and the actress was even threatened with a death sentence. “They hang people for such things in this country,” she said.
It helped that Golshifteh Farahani starred in the Iranian film What Do You Know About Elly in the meantime – the production got the Silver Bear for directing at the Berlin Film Festival. Shortly after the premiere of the award-winning production, the investigation into the actress was dropped, and Farahani was allowed to leave the country. By the way, she was very emphatically advised never to return to Iran. Then she emigrated to France, where she continued her acting career. She usually portrayed rebellious women brought up in a Muslim culture.
Ridley Scott did not forget about her – when he was shooting the movie “Exodus: Gods and Kings” in 2014, he cast her as Nefertari. A moment later, she appeared in Jim Jarmusch’s “Paterson”, where she played the wife of the main character – who was played by Oscar-nominated Adam Driver. Farahani was also in the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge.

In 2020, she starred in Tyler Rake: Salvation as Nik Khan, and now she is back in the second part of the production. As she admits in an interview with Gazeta.pl, it was a very exhausting job. You can see the entire conversation here:
“Nik is a really special and unique character in the sense that she is human and soldier at the same time. She is not the object of the main character’s sighs, she is his good friend and they have a really strong bond. They are like family to each other. Because we have genetic families and a family we choose for ourselves – Nik and Tylor are just that for each other. They’re both swimming in their own ocean of pain, but it’s pain that they’re trying to work through and transform it into something else, something positive,” she describes her character’s relationship with Chris Hemsworth’s character.
“Tyler Rake 2”. The plot and cast of the film
Tayler Rake is an Australian mercenary specializing in covert missions. After the events of the first part, which almost cost him his life, he returns to perform a new task. This time he has to free the tormented family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from prison. For viewers, there are a 21-minute single action scene and a helicopter landing on a moving train.
The script was based on the graphic novel “Ciudad” and was adapted by Joe Russo, who together with his brother Anthony made the blockbuster movie “Avengers: End Game”. Chris Hemsworth reprises his lead role and is backed by Golshifteh Farahani as Nik Khan. The cast also includes Adam Bessa, Olga Kurylenko, Daniel Bernhardt and Tinatin Dalakishvili. Tyler Rake 2 is available to watch from June 16, 2023.
