Katarzyna Obara for several years appeared on the television channel Two, leading popular programs. After the birth of the child, she planned to return to the vision, but during the parental leave she unexpectedly received a notice of termination. How did her fate turn out?

Only 15 years ago, Katarzyna Obara was considered one of the biggest stars. Although she took her first steps in the industry, she appeared in the station’s programs alongside experienced professionals. Her unexpected disappearance from the screens caused a lot of speculation among viewers.

She was a star of Polish Television. She left the station under unpleasant circumstances

Katarzyna Obara took her first steps in television on TVP3 Wrocław. At first, she carried tapes or microphones, she also acted as a researcher, telling about various situations from Lower Silesia. Difficult beginnings, however, did not discourage her from working on television. Later, she appeared on Polsat for some time, co-hosting the program “Two Worlds” with Krzysztof Ibisz, but eventually returned to TVP. — I was in my twenties and I got a chance to join the team that included Kasia Dowbor, Jola Fajkowska and Agata Młynarska, i.e. journalists who made the history of television for years. It was something amazing – she recalled in an interview with .

Obara won the sympathy of viewers, leading such programs as “Ale Dwójka”, “Ale Lato”, “My first time” or “Junior”. She gained the greatest popularity when, in a duet with Maciej Dowbor, she began to lead “Question for Breakfast”. The good streak lasted until 2009, when she became pregnant and gave birth to a daughter, Zuzanna. First, she was on maternity leave and then decided to continue caring for the child, exercising her right to parental leave.

Although the station authorities assured that she would be able to return to the vision, everything changed unexpectedly. — At the end of April 2010, just before the May long weekend, I received a registered letter from Telewizja Polska. (…) Inside was a letter informing that Telewizja Polska was terminating my employment contract due to the “liquidation” of my position. At that time, I was employed as a journalist/presenter. Something odd, she recalled bitterly many years later. “I took it hard. I was very surprised by this situation,” she confessed.

Today, Katarzyna Obara is a businesswoman. The journalist runs her own business

Although she knew that the dismissal was unfair, she chose not to fight for her rights in court. Initially, she applied for a job at a competing station, but the then director, Edward Miszczak, dismissed her empty-handed, justifying her refusal with the statement that “she doesn’t need another TVN”. She finally decided to let go.

Obara initially focused on politics, which she became involved in at the local level. First, she was a councilor of Wrocław, and then she ran for the position of mayor of the city, taking third place in the voting. Eventually, however, she abandoned these plans and took up the catering industry. Today, her restaurant has been successfully operating for over 10 years. The former journalist is fulfilling in her current job and sees no chance to return to the screens in the future. “Both television and politics are definitely closed chapters in my life,” he argues.
