debuted on the stage in 1972, but gained the greatest popularity 9 years later as the leader and co-founder of the band. For more than 50 years of his career, he was involved in many scandals, but none of them significantly affected his position in the music industry. One of the most famous was the so-called Wroclaw incident. What happened during the concert?
Scandal during Lady Pank’s concert in Wrocław. 37 years have passed since these events
The band’s musicians were called “Polish Rolling Stones” from the beginning. The term stuck to them not only because of the music, but also because of the truly rock and roll lifestyle. They often took part in alcohol-fueled parties, and the newspapers wrote about the brawls they started or fights.
On the occasion of Children’s Day, on June 1, 1986, the Union of Socialist Polish Youth organized a concert, where he was the star of the evening. Over 50,000 people showed up at the Olympic Stadium in Wrocław. people who were waiting for the band’s performance. The musicians did appear on stage, but in a state that strongly indicated alcohol intoxication, because the day before they had been partying until late at night. – The truth is that when we played three concerts a day, we were in different conditions, we had such actions and many others. There is no need to whitewash, that’s how it was – Janusz Panasewicz in an interview for Gazeta Wyborcza. This did not sit well with a few people in the audience, who protested loudly. The shouted slogans annoyed Borysewicz, who reacted by making the so-called Kozakiewicz’s gesture. The angry audience did not give up, chanting louder and louder. Then the guitarist pulled off his pants without thinking, showing the young listeners his penis.
Borysewicz’s behavior met with consequences. Lady Pank’s activities have been suspended
Although the other members of the team reacted quickly to this incident, the intervention of the militia was necessary. When Borysewicz was brought from the stage, an examination was carried out which showed that he was under the influence of alcohol. As a result of the prank and aggressive behavior towards the officers, the guitarist ended up in a psychiatric facility, where he was subjected to tests. At the same time, criminal proceedings were initiated. Ultimately, he was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for his act, but was never imprisoned as a result of the amnesty.
The team was also affected by the consequences. The Ministry of Culture and Art decided to suspend Lady Pank’s activities for three months, but this was the least of the problems. After the media scandal broke out, many people in the industry turned their backs on the artists, including Andrzej Mogielnicki, co-author of the group’s greatest hits. “All the taunting people and my behavior that took place was basically beyond me. It was as if someone else was pushing me to do it, I just had no inhibitions then – Borysewicz explained his behavior a year later in the documentary “Less Than Zero”. After leaving the hospital, the musician made a pilgrimage to Jasna Góra, which, as he argued, completely changed him. Today, this infamous stage of life is considered closed and he is reluctant to talk about these events.
