he was George Kirk’s Thor in Star Trek, the man in black, and now he’s reunited with the Russo brothers and starred in their second film, Tyler Rake: Salvation. In the latest film, we will see how his hero comes back almost from the grave to help his former sister-in-law, who with her two children is trying to break free from the clutches of the Georgian mafia. The actor met with us for five minutes to talk about the production. But what a five minutes! You can watch the entire conversation in this video:
Chris Hemsworth really burned alive on the set of ‘Tyler Rake 2’
– Fortunately, I didn’t lose my child, but my hero did. (…) Then there is the matter of running away from his problems, which was the most cowardly thing. He couldn’t face the pain of this loss and he has to pay for it for the rest of his life. That’s why he’s looking for some redemption – Chris Hemsworth tells us about his character, who points out that it’s real emotions that make people want to watch crazy scenes full of duels and explosions.
In the movie “Tyler Rake 2” viewers will see a trifle lasting 21 minutes of action scene. It was edited to look like it was shot in one take, which was a daunting task in itself. It was written by Joe Russo (co-director of the blockbuster “Avengers: Endgame”) – it took 30 pages from the 124-page script of “Tyler Rake 2”.
Preparations for the recording of this scene alone took three months, and more than 400 stuntmen from around the world were employed for its needs – specialists from China, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Brazil, America, Australia and England came to the set. No one in this colossal shot is a mere extra.
The creators decided, like Tom Cruise, that they would not push the viewers tons of special effects, so ALL the stunt scenes were played on the film set. CG was mainly used to erase security features used during shooting. Chris Hemsworth, with the exception of a few scenes that were considered too dangerous, starred in almost all of his action scenes himself. In this film, for example, he fought with 68 stuntmen and learned over 5,000 choreographed moves. He also underwent a week of pyrotechnics training to safely record the sequence where his arm burns.
In addition, the crew of Tyelra Rake 2 hired legendary pilot Fred North especially for the film to record the scene in which his helicopter lands on a moving train – something that has never been seen in any film before. Tyler Rake 2 is available to watch from June 16, 2023.
