Actress Amber Heard paid off the million dollars she owed her ex-husband, also an actor Johnny Depp, after losing a media defamation trial held in June last year at the Fairfax County Court (Virginia, USA), American media announced on Tuesday.

The legal battle, which lasted six weeks, ended with $10 million fine against Heard for defamation of “Pirates of the Caribbean” starcalling herself a victim of domestic abuse in a column published in The Washington Post.

For that text, Depp sued her for defamation and demanded $50 million in damages.

But after the verdict and a series of appeals by the protagonist of “Aquaman”, Depp agreed to settle the case last December, capping the award at $1 million.the amount now paid by the actress’s insurance company.

The court in Fairfax (Virginia, USA) considered the same. Depp had to reimburse his ex-wife $2 million, who countersued, also for defamation. The actor’s current legal team is still fighting to avoid this payout.

Heard and Depp fell in love on the set of “The Rum Diaries” in 2009 and they made their relationship official seven years later with a marriage that did not last more than fifteen months.
