At the beginning of June, Metallica played two big concerts at the British Download Festival. The band really gave it their all because the local police were inundated with complaints. Residents complained that they could hear noise even 25 km from the festival site.

Download Festival is one of the UK’s largest and most popular rock and heavy metal music festivals. In 2023, the event celebrates its 20th anniversary, and is traditionally organized at Donington Park in Leicestershire. One would think that the inhabitants had time to get used to the fact that since 2005 there has been a three-day celebration of heavy music in their city. And yet the musicians from Metallica went so crazy that people started calling the police.

The band performed on June 8 and Derbyshire Police confirm they have received numerous noise complaints.

The BBC reports that the music could be heard 24km from the festival site in Heage, 19km at Hilton and 16km at Macworth. Not all residents were happy with the fact that they had the opportunity to listen to the performance of the cult American band for free. As reported by the British broadcaster, one of the residents of the area, Kirk Hallam, wrote on the local fan page of her town on Facebook: “Do you hear Download Festival in our area tonight, is anyone in the garden fulfilling their dreams of a rock’n’roll career?”. There was one enthusiastic response in the comments: “It’s amazing, you can really hear the Metallica singer singing.” A Long Eaton resident complained on Facebook: “This is ridiculous. Miriam Barber, who lives near the festival site, told the BBC that traffic in the area had been reorganized for the festival, taking her nearly three hours to get back from work, which usually takes 20 minutes. When she got home, she could clearly hear the music so loud she was sure the neighbors were having a party: “It’s surprising, because we’ve never heard a festival here before. I had my windows closed and I could still easily recognize what song was playing. is currently being played” – describes the scale of the phenomenon.

Councilor Michael Wyatt from North West Leicestershire District Council commented: “Although noise limits have not been exceeded, we expected some people living near the festival site to be able to hear some noise. We will be working with the event organizers to monitor sound levels at key times and will act accordingly. if limits are exceeded. Metallica will come to Poland in July 2024. He will play at the National Stadium in Warsaw on July 5 and 7 – according to the idea of ​​the “M72 World Tour”, a different set of songs will be presented each day.
