They are the most listened to rappers in history! Spotify published the ranking

Undoubtedly, rap is now one of the most popular music genres not only in Poland, but also around the world. Spotify decided to publish a list of the most listened to rappers among subscribers in the history of its service. Men predominate, but only one woman, who has been present on the market for many years, managed to make it to the top ten.

Spotify is the largest music streaming platform on the market and is known for being very eager to share music statistics. They often concern the preferences of website subscribers. The most famous is the so-called “Wrapped”, i.e. a summary of the year, which appears at the turn of November and December, but other statements also appear during the remaining months.

Which rappers are most listened to by Spotify users?

Rap has been undergoing a renaissance for several years. In Poland, this has been going on more or less since 2018, when the supergroup TACONAFIDE, composed of rappers Taco Hemingway and Quebonafide, gained extraordinary popularity. Thanks to their work, rap was elevated to a pedestal and officially broke through to the mainstream, paving new trails in native creativity.

Globally, rap established itself in popular culture in the late 1990s and early 00s, but has evolved significantly since then. Spotify decided to check which rap music users like more. The list of the most listened to rappers in the history of Spotify has just appeared on the web.

Podium is one of the top representatives of the genre, but Drake released his first mixtape in 2006, but it wasn’t until four years later that he managed to release his debut studio album. His musical style has constantly evolved since then, but it’s safe to say that he began to create in a different time than Eminem and Kanye West, which were in the next two places.

In fifth place was XXXTENTACION, who died in 2018 at the age of twenty. Considered one of the leading representatives of the emo rap trend, and in his lyrics he touched on the subject of depression and alienation, which means that many listeners in crisis can find themselves in their music. Despite this, the rapper’s figure is considered controversial by some, due to the numerous crimes he committed during his lifetime.

The next places belong to such giants in the industry as Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar or Future, but the most interesting is the tenth place, which was managed to be taken by one of the two women on this list. This item belongs to Nicki Minaj, who is best known for her hit numbers like “Starships” and “Pound The Alarm”, but don’t let that fool you. The rapper has many songs on her account that are not so popular, but it is in them that she can boast of her powerful flow.

In addition to her, the 18th place was followed by Cardi B, who has been taking Western charts by storm in recent years and is definitely more famous about her than about Nicki Minaj. The entire list is completed by American rapper, singer and songwriter Gunna, who has three studio albums and four Grammy nominations to his credit.
