Mexican filmmaker Ángeles Cruz, Zinegoak Honorary Award

The Bilbao LGTBI+ film festival zinegoak has awarded its Honorary Award for the 2023 edition to the Mexican filmmaker and actress Angeles Cruz “for his committed cinema with a marked social accent”.
The festival, which in this edition will be held from the end of June to the beginning of July instead of in its birth period in the months of February and March, has announced the award this Tuesday, which Cruz will collect on June 26 in the Arriaga, during the opening gala of the twentieth edition.
The director, screenwriter and actress won the Lesbianism and Gender Award at the last edition of Zinegoak for her work “Nudo mixteco”.
Her acting career began in 1994 with the film “La hija del puma” by Åsa Faringer and Ulf Hultberg, and this was followed by a multitude of TV series and feature films until in 2011 she began writing and directing her own stories.
Ángeles Cruz will travel to Bilbao to collect the award in person, at the Zinegoak opening gala, and the day before she will participate in a gathering and subsequent screening of three of her short films. During the week of the festival, there will also be a special cycle on the filmmaker at BilbaoArte.
