At the end of May this year the premiere of the documentary “Childhood of Iwona Wieczorek”, in which she spoke, among others. mother of a missing girl. The film also includes a hitherto unpublished interview with the late. Janusz Szostak, an investigative journalist who devoted years of his work to trying to unravel the disappearance of a 19-year-old. He was the author of two books on the subject: “Who Killed Iwona Wieczorek?” and “What happened to Iwona Wieczorek?”.
The late reporter took about the police’s neglect of the investigation in less than two years after the disappearance of the 19-year-old. He noted that many negligence on the part of the services occurred at the very beginning, but also the subsequent proceedings were conducted “in a strange and incomprehensible way”.
“They admitted that they agreed together what they would say at the hearings”
Two years after the disappearance of the young woman – when the case completely stalled and no new evidence appeared – Marek Siewierc, an analyst at the National Police Headquarters, was asked to look into her. Janusz Szostak pointed out that he was most distrustful of the intricate and dubious testimonies of Iwona’s friends.
Many lies were mainly in the statements of Iwona’s boyfriend and his colleagues. They admitted that they agreed together what they would say during the interrogations. Even though they agreed on what they would testify, these testimonies were contrary to reality
Szostak said. The reporter emphasized that Siewierc had full access to the files, the collected evidence and the content of the testimonies of all witnesses. On this basis, he was to prepare recommendations and an analysis for the Tri-City Police.
He reviewed all the evidence. He made his own analysis. The analysis showed who could be the perpetrator, who was lying and what could be the motive, why it happened
Szostak explained. However, the case again stalled. – At one point he was ordered to destroy all analyzes and thoughts. Grind it all up. That’s telling, investigative journalists said in an interview.
The disappearance of Iwona Wieczorek
The disappearance of Iwona Wieczorek is one of the most mysterious and unsolved cases in the history of Polish forensic science. A young, 19-year-old girl disappeared on the night of July 16/17, 2010. That evening she had fun with a group of friends in one of Sopot’s discos – “Dream Club”. After arguing with friends, she decided to separate from them and return home alone. But she never got there.
Since then, numerous theories about her disappearance and alleged scenarios that could have taken place on the ill-fated night have multiplied.
Currently, the case is being dealt with by investigators from the Prosecutor’s X-Files. A breakthrough in the mystery that has not been solved for nearly thirteen years, the media called the arrest of Iwona’s colleague, Paweł P. (today a 35-year-old man – ed.) in December 2022 – it is, among others, Iwona played with him on the night of July 16/17, 2010. The 35-year-old was charged with obstructing the investigation into Iwona’s disappearance. Currently, the investigation is shrouded in secrecy and the prosecutor’s office does not reveal at what stage it is and whether it already has suspicions that could lead to clarification of the case.
“I’m probably the only one who would leave a few percent for the fact that Iwona is alive”
Let us recall that earlier we talked to Mikołaj Podolski – a reporter, author of the book “Łowca teenager” (about the criminal practice that took place in Sopot’s “Zatoka Sztuki” – ed.) about the investigation into the disappearance of Iwona Wieczorek. Podolski has been investigating the disappearance of Iwona Wieczorek for over eight years and was one of the first and few to have access to her files. As he claims, in this case we are dealing only with circumstantial evidence.
– I am probably the only journalist who dealt with this case and who would leave a few percent that Iwona is alive. I would also leave a few percent of the possibility that she was buried as NN (this is a specialized abbreviation, mainly used in legal terminology and forensic science to describe a person whose identity has not been established – ed.), he said in an interview with Woman.gazeta.pl.
