Actor Barry Newman is dead. The 92-year-old died on May 11 at New York Presbyterian Columbia University Irving Medical Center, and his wife Angela announced his death late. His character of a Vietnam War veteran named Kowalski in “Vanishing Point” by Richard C. Sarafian.

Barry Newman was from Boston and died on May 11 at the age of 92. The actor’s cause of death was not disclosed, but it is known that in 2009 he was diagnosed with vocal cord cancer, which forced him to stop working on the set. During his almost sixty-year film career, he appeared in over 30 films and nearly 20 television series.

The most famous film in which he had the opportunity to play is “Vanishing Point” directed by Richard C. Sarafian. The work is still considered one of the cult films of the American cinema of the 1970s. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this production was a turning point in the actor’s career. After the success of the 1970 Broadway play The Lawyer, Newman was said to be “ready for a change of pace.”

A year later, he played Kowalski – a veteran of the Vietnam War, a former rally driver and a dishonorably dismissed policeman. His character’s task was to transport a car from Denver to San Francisco. Under the influence of amphetamines, he drove a white Dodge Challenger R/T 440 Magnum through the wilderness, pursued by law enforcement officers.

“It was a very special experience,” Berry Newman said of the role. “I just made a movie about a lawyer, a Harvard graduate, and I thought it was something else. The guy was a rebel, an anti-hero. I loved it,” he says, quoted by The Hollywood Reporter.

In 1974, he managed to appear in the series “Petrocelli”. For this role, Newman was nominated for an Emmy and a Golden Globe. Later, he starred in such productions as: “Tunnel” in 1996, where he played opposite Sylvester Stallone, “Requiem for Brown” in 1998, and “Angola” in 1999. He also starred in many popular series, such as “Lawyers of the City of Angels”, “Murder She Wrote” and “Miss Marple”, which are often shown by television stations to this day.
